Golf Course Measurements

Our course is looking at remeasuring the distance markers, as they are far from accurate and measuring the new ladies layout.
Does anyone know where distance measuring devices (laser range finders) can be hired. Or if there is a company that will measure the course out for you??

it shouldn’t be difficult to get something like that done.

Do they just want to measure the course or are they thinking of producing yardage books?

If they produced books, the cost of getting a really good job done can be offset by the longterm sales of the yardage books. I guess it would depend on how many visitor green fees your club gets to decide whether you get a professional caddy to do measurements or whether you get the likes of scoresaver to do a yardage chart.

employ a surveyor

Club runs on volunteer work only, just interested in having accurate measurements to make it a little more enjoyable to play.
If the fee to do it is to high someone will just use a measuring wheel problem is there are a few holes where someone who walks on water would be required, I was hoping something could be hired around the $100-$200 mark as the club could afford this, any more and the committee will say no.

have any members who are coppers?
they may be able to borrow a laser radar from work and do the measuring for you.

You will find country police more amenable to this kind of thing, and if you are in the bush the locals may do it for you even if they arent members of the club.

find someone who has a sureshot GPS

I think you mean Strokesaver, not Scoresaver. I am the MD of the company that makes Scoresaver and we only do software!

Our clubs Local District association has a Laser range finder available for clubs to use for this purpose. I would be would checking with your Local district secretary to see if they have a laser range finder available.

Next option would be for your club to purchase an entry level laser range finder, Bushnell have a Laser range finder available for under $400. Also, check with your local camera/photography shop and if you ask nice enough, they may let you borrow a unit if they have one in stock.

Hi Andrew N,

It’s Andy Richmond here. I remember you well from the beta program. How are you?

Cheers
Andy

Download Google Earth – if you club is in the high res map area, you would just about be able to measure to Sprinkler heads.

And all for very little cost…
