What would you do?

Here is what happened during my saturday round:

Mid way through playing the tenth hole, two members who also help maintain the course, drove up to the green and changed the pin position. We were told that they also changed two other pin placements. When they were finished everyone in my group faced a chip to a different part of the green.

I have no idea whether or not this is allowed, but i was just wondering how would you approach the situation?

I assume it was more difficult or you wouldn’t be asking?

Mate that is unbeleivable, was that in a comp round?
Unheard of!

It was during the saturday competition, with just over half the field having allready played that hole.

Thats kinda stupid. That means that the whole field doesn’t play the same course!

That is definitely not allowed in competition. Sort that sh1t out.

100% not allowed

agree with all the rest
especially in a comp….everyone should play the same pin

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !

thats bad..I saw something similar…I seen a green keeper mowing the first cut on the back of greens where ball would roll down quicker….I gave him an earful…asked him who told him to do that?

it was sorted …the idiot head green keeper never played golf…didnt know the rules..I bet he does now

moving the pin thats unbelievable…makes you laugh

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

I’ve seen a hole moved in a competition round but that was because a bird had attacked the edges of the hole and it became unputtable.

But in a normal situation i think that changing the holes during a comp round is against the rules.

The committee & greenkeepers should know that they can’t do this;

Rule 33-2b
New Holes
New holes should be made on the day on which a stroke play competition begins and at such other times as the Committee considers necessary, provided all competitors in a single round play with each hole cut in the same position.
Exception: When it is impossible for a damaged hole to be repaired so that it conforms with the Definition, the Committee may make a new hole in a nearby similar position.

Obviously this needs to be pointed out to them. As to the results of the competition….that’s open to debate as not all players played the same course.

Decision 33-2b/1
Question – During a round in a stroke play competition, one or more holes were relocated and/or tee-markers moved. What is the proper procedure?

Answer – If this was authorised by the Committee, the round should be declared null and void. In stroke play, the Committee is prohibited from relocating a hole and from moving teemarkers except as provided in the Exception and Note to Rule 33-2b or in circumstances such as those in Decision 25-1b/4.
If this was done without the authority or sanction of the Committee, generally the round should be declared null and void. However, if the course has not been altered significantly and no competitor has been given an undue advantage or disadvantage, the Committee would be justified in letting the round stand.

Was there any significant advantage to some players?

Thanks for the response, if i do decide to apporach someone about it, i wanted to know what rules to quote. I don’t have alot of influence at the club, so my argument needs to sounds legit.

There was definetly no advantage for the group i was playing in, all 3 of us had a chip from 20 meters or less, and all of sudden were playing at a different part of a green.

I’m unsure how the changes affected players on the other two holes.

Having a chuckle to my self about this one.
Maybe they were trying to spice up the 19th hole beer talk.
“I would have had a hole in one if it wasn’t moved”
“nearest the pin? Which pin? my pin was harder than your pin.”

Sorry I love my golf but don’t take it that seriously.

wazzza mate, tha’ts really funny
you’ll take the prize for this :))
