No suprise Mastercard is pulling out after the channel 7 debacle

they pulled out way before this years tournament

any news as to possible new sponsors or is IMG just pissing into the breeze…..

Just another tournament IMG has taken over that they will manage to do away with.. This may be the start of the end for another…Pity IMG have their poisonous fingers in golf here.. The company has only ever taken over tournaments in Australia…They have never started one.. and somehow they all end up dead memories. On another issue with the report, Surely ISG NEWS, would you have not been better served by having Bruce Y write it up as more of a news piece with some quotes from others.. I’m sure some Huntingdale types might have a bit to say, PGA Tour as well, what about its co-sanctioned status..also what about Ch7? Instead of just putting up the dribble straight off a press release from IMG which sounds like it was all out of their hands, when more than possibly it was not.
"WOW! the Laws of Physics actually work!!" Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, Sleek Geeks, ABC TV, 3 January 2008. |

There was more than that involved, but Channel 7’s efforts certainly did not assist.. The again…I was getting sick of the same old commentary you get with Channel 7 (Jack N..an exception) IMG…well…time will only tell how well they will pull this off.

With Australian Golf, this seems to occur all the time. The Australian Open….Hillross, the NSW Open…...that Korean Car Manufacture..Proton, The Nationwide Event that was Jacob’s Creek… have I missed any others of recent time? ANZ with the Mens event that use to be co-sanctioned with Europe….the Heineken Classic as well…. Is this more reflection of the levels of commercial interest in the game since post-Norman era, or, from another perspective, incompetence with the administrations responsible for the tournaments, in being unable to sell, sustain and market the product?

Combination of both no doubt. Very hard to sex up the game after it’s been viewed for decades as a slow, boring sport played by old grumpy codgers. Nothing other than a real world tour will save it in the long run. Maybe the One Asia tour will do some help but I suspect it will just be seen as the poor man’s tour running a distant 3rd to the US and European.

I’d suggest that the Australian Opens will be looking for new sponsors too…

not looking at all good for Australian Golf… and with the way the market is going…sponsors will be in the minority… interesting summer of golf ahead, or lack there of!

“Within Australia over one million viewers sat glued to the coverage on the Seven Network”. Yeah until the wankers turned it off during the playoff. Ch 7 managed to do the same thing last Sat night by delaying the Aus Open tennis so they could show Heartbeat, gimme a break.
