Given that it’s going to hit a stinking hot 43 degrees in Adelaide today, I thought it appropriate to put out the question: What are the worst conditions you’ve ever played in? At what temperature do you draw the line? It’s something for me to pass the time ‘til it’s cool enough to get outside again I guess :)

34 degrees with 70%+ humidity is a bit of a norm up my way at the moment – when there is no wind it gets kind of uncomfortable.

How true ,but strangely enough the hottest round I have ever played was at Thurgoona golf course (not sure on the spelling) in albury where we booked a week earlier for an afternoon round & the temp reached 43 deg. Fortunately the humidity was low.
A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all.

42 here in Melb today, I have had the past week off and most days have been above 30. Been trying to tee off early to beat the heat, but once the sun comes out you really feel it, no matter what your fitness level.

Hottest was in the late 70’s or early 80’s in Kalgoorlie for the annual pro-am. I think it was in march and the temp was 42-43 for the two days. Anything above 30 causes me to have second thoughts nowadays.

We can,t afford to do yhat in N.Q. If we did we would only play about a dozen times a year.

I must confess I’m now of the opinion only mad dogs and englishmen go out in the midday sun :) I wasn’t always like this, and at one time I’d play in high temperatures. When I was in my twenties I worked for a few years in the tropics on the equator, and we occasionaly played golf on our day off. I guess these would consistently be the worst conditions I’ve played golf in.

Mad dogs, Englishmen & Golfers. I fit into two of those catagories, I,ll leave it to forum members to decide which two.

Hottest I remember was a 36 hole tournament at Keperra in Brisbane mid 90’s.. Was 36 degrees plus, a real shocker of a day to play
|

I played at Leeton on New Years day a couple back – it was 43 degrees at 4pm with a hot northerly when we teed off… we made it 9 holes before calling it quits and retreating to the bar

Humidity is the difference for me – 42 degs in Melb or Perth is much more acceptable than 35 in Brisbane or Orlando.

I’ve played a number of rounds in temps above 40C – I just make sure that i drink 4 ro 5 litres of water on the way round.

Played a Saturday comp approximately 6 or 7 years ago when the mercury hit 44 degrees here in Melbourne. It was for memory our hottest recorded day in February. Masses obviously scratched and I was left in a two ball with the club captain. Scratched the first and I thought here we go, this is one big mistake. To cut a long story short managed to regroup and finished with a neat 35 points. I thought I was a ‘monty’ to win the comp. Very first person I crossed in the bar at the 19th and his score was 37, unbelievable I thought. Anyway what an experience, not really recommended but glad to finish.

Playing in the heat is a great way to check your putting stance – the beads of sweat from your brow should be landing on your ball.

30C is my limit, if it looks like it will be cool in the morning I will play then, otherwise not at all.

45 degrees playing Duntry League at Orange in a Hoteliers Golf Day, got to I think the 12th, saw the clubhouse & retreated. Only time I’ve never finished a round. Heat doesn’t really bother me, if it’s going to be hot I tee off early, drinks heaps of water & SSS.

I don’t see how you guys can play in 110F+ days! I question whether I even want to go out with a cart at 100F.

I tee off at first light which used to be 4.30 in the middle of summer but has now become 5.30 thanks to someone who thinks we need more light in the heat of the afternoon than in the cool of the morning, the knobs obviously don’t play golf. If I’m playing during the day I get a cart.

Played in 41 degrees at Yowani Golf Club in Canberra one January about 12 years ago. One of my playing partners had a soft sided esky attached to his bag with a bottle of frozen water in it. He also had a block of Cadburys chocolate stored in the esky. When he went to have some chocolate at about the 9th hole the chocolate was liquid. We played the full 18 as we had taken the afternoon off work and had been looking forward to it this afternoon for a while. A storm looked like it was going to come over and it is the first time I have ever wished a thunderstorm to hit while I have been playing golf but it went around Canberra and just made things more humid. Played in 37 degrees at Federal in Feb last year with another member of this forum, wbennett.

years ago heat never seemed to bother me, but now I say to myself “why go out if your not going to enjoy it, there will be other days” Hottest in Australia has been Darwin Golf Club April 2002 T’d off at 10am walking, the mate did 9 holes and he said thats enough, I kept going and was saved by the 2 locals we were playing with who had a cart and just kept feeding me water from a huge water bottle they had which had a tap, they obviously new what to expect. In to the club house afterwards and sat there for 4 hours rehidrating in the A/C. Still 38% at midnight and I cant remember having one P$#s. Cairns and Melbourne 40%. Malaysia sweat just poring off you as the steam comes up off the grass and the humidity makes it hard to breathe. At my age now, I have to be very careful, I try and drink heaps of water and stay off the alcohol. Don’t take it too lightly dehydration can be a very dangerous.

Well, I’ve just found my solution to the hot days… going to my mate’s house :) He showed me Tiger Woods 08 on the Playstation 3 on Friday night and it has easily the best graphics I’ve ever seen for a console game. I guess that’s the best substitute for when you absolutely positively can’t be arsed going for a round.

Here,s the choice I have to make Early morning 28deg 90% hunidity& no breeze or Midday .33deg 80% humidity & a good sea breeze . I will take midday every time, that early morning mugginess puts me off that timeslot. Hey Racinfarmer I,d rather have the heat than the cold anytime. why do you think I left pommieland & moved to sunny Queensland.

Given those figures the ball would fly further at midday.. unfortunately half the field have called it quits so no-one is there to see the bomb’s your hitting.

I got to house sit for my girlfriends boss, who owns an Xbox 360 and I played this game on that. You are right mate – it is unbelievable. Apparently with all the rain at Kapalua this week, and Chopra having never played there before, he was relying on Tiger Woods 08 to help him plan for the tournment when he couldn’t get out for a practice round.

I played on Dec 29 in melb when it was around 42 degrees I think.
