Has anyone played golf on Christmas Day at the New South Wales Golf Club at La Perouse in the past year or two ? I remember a ranger used to collect money at the gate and hand you a card and off you go on one of the best courses in the world. Is that still the case ?

Wow, even I’m not game enough to golf on xmas day… the missus would kill me I thinks..

True, but I know my better half wouldn’t see it that way.

We close our course in Sydney to give the course and the staff a rest and what happens ??? they climb the fences to get in and play it. I think this year Ill go up there with my Rotty and scare a few off. Im as mad about golf as the next guy but Christmas day for cripes sake, I would nt mind if the used a sand bucket or pitch repairer once in a while but not this lot give the course a break if anything.

Shanky- A lot of people could use lessons on using both those items. One course around here doesn’t have sand buckets so when their members play at our course they don’t think about it.

Remember golf in my younger days. Christmas day, a belly full of food, skin full of grog and a game against my B.I.L him hcp(5) me hcp (4). Rules, we had to swap clubs. I must say playing with right hands clubs is a real laugh. Don’t know how you do it guys. Good memories of a fun game of golf. Mollyduke

What’s wrong with golf on Christmas Day ? It is a christian celebration, what if you’re agnostic/atheist or of some other denomination, it’s just a public holiday right ? And what’s better than playing golf, esp if your missus is happy to join you.

I’ve already tried to ask, and not looking promising. Given that my 6 yr old son has started to play I thought I might be in with a shot, but I don’t think we’ll get out. We might have to wait until he’s 15.

I will be in sale for xmas and hear theres a track there so will take my new stand bag and wheel my young fella in the pram for 9 holes after lunch to burn of the lunch Im the Ben Cousins of golf…addicted beyond help if theres something resembling a golf course anywhere Im on it at some stage

Many clubs don’t open the clubhouse on Christmas day but there are a few casuals who turn up to have a hit and there is someone around to collect their fees.Generally children under 11 or 12 aren’t allowed possibly because of legal liability but it’s probably not enforced this day.
No matter how bad your game it is always possible to get better or worse |
|
Correct there.. can’t wait till the kiddies have thier pressies FROM US ( not that red dressed fellow) opened then I might go and hit a few balls, (generally takes me a hour and a half) Back for lunch and a couple of beers, ‘cos half the family think they are still christian, bit of an arvo snooze..and then I might go and play holes till dill dusk from about 6 pm.. don’t see anything wrong with that.. And I might play two or three balls as well.

Well now I don’t want to rub it in here guys, but I am in the very fortunate position of living about 3 minutes from the local course, I’m single now and my kids are adults living a long way away. I’ll probably cruise down to the course early and have 2-3 hours of pure solitary heaven… bit of practice, then 9 holes before it gets too hot, then back home to start making the rounds and be sociable. Surely the best of all worlds…....ho hum, someone’s gotta do it I guess.
If there's no golf in heaven, then I ain't going
there. |

I plan on going out about dinner time for 9 with my new sticks. We have a Xmas lunch and by then Xmas will be over.

Are clubs fenced off over east…man over here in the west you just drive in an tee it up and off you go…pay in the box
so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead |

The only fence bewtween my house and the course is my backyard one. I will be out there at some stage during the day I’m sure.

My missus is MAKING me play on Christmas Day coz she’s just become addicted herself…the things a bloke has to put up with…Jeeez!

Its better to stay silent and look a fool, than to open your

Xmas Day would have to be the best time of the year for a game!

I’ll be heading around a little 9-holer in Tassie called Tea Tree on Xmas morning. Have done that on two previous occasions and also played up at Yorkeys in Cairns on two other Xmas mornings. Tea Tree is an honesty box course so no problem with a game anytime really. As long as summer remembers to turn up in Tassie it’s about as nice and secluded as you can get on a golf course! At Yorkeys the club didn’t open up on the 25th of Dec, but in a nice xmas gesture used to leave some scorecards and cradles for the pull buggies outside. We generally popped the green fees under the pro shop door to return their favour. This year the better half will be joining me too as she’s taken up the game and is starting to enjoy it as much as me… how good is holidays time!!!

It is possible to play at New South wales on Christmas day ! Pay the security guard a nominal fee and managed to get through the 18 in under 4 hours (had to overtake a couple of slow Korean foursomes in the process). Greens a bit slow but otherwise an awesome course as always.
