Discussion for Scoring chaos at Australian Open

Disappointing to see, I must admit, but I’ll only call them the worst sports site in Australia once they’ve been inaccessible for at least a day… IMO, the Telstra AFL site is the absolute worst sports site ever. Fingers crossed their web-geeks sort the problems soon. This would be their worst nightmare.

Yeh you can imagine the geeks running around like mad..shit, shit…oh shit :)

agree bunny afl is the worst by a mile. as for aus open is this just another publicity stunt? the media manager has definately earned a bonus this year.
out of the sin bin & loving it! |

The Australian Open would be the same without something fuckin up now would it….. When are they going to get someone decent to run this event.
|
|
Well well, what a surprise….... why change something that was obviously working previously? Did they not have a test run of this so call “new innovative feature”? GA must be so embarrassed about this f—k Up….and what a f—k up it is.

Seems like it’s a winner now. The entire site seems to have crashed
|

Going by the picture with the story…. they have kids running the show…...and they’re using “Dell” enough said. There’s no substitute for experience…...and the use of proper equipment. Shocking effort…

Have a look at this pic – this was what they reckon John Geary (who ?) had early this morning. He obviously teed off on 9, played 10 & then 1 !! Anyway, why do they need all the graphic crap – I just want to see the FULL leaderboard with links to player scorecards – simple as shyte.

That’s one fugly design.

Server has crashed.. website is now gone.. now no live scoring….....Now we’ll have to put up with the feeble efforts of Ch 7 when it suits them to display a leader board longer than 12 names…

Now Channel Seven has gone down too. Oh well, at least we get to see what else they have on next week.

Picture is up, but no course sound. Wish we could mute Sandy too…

I think I might have jinxed them. I know it sucks for it to be down and all, but I did have a good laugh when I refreshed the forum thread and saw what has happened… perhaps they will take the crown from Telstra/AFL after all!! :)

That is one fugly scoreboard – why don’t they just learn to show the data. Show the entire scoreboard – it isn’t that hard. Another “flash” overload getting the way of what people want. Hope they got it cheap. Bring back Colin Philips I say :) LOL

Site still down Sitting here at work and all I want is a simply scoreboard, nothing fancy just a scoreboard with names and results….
|
|
They should do what the lads at cricinfo do… keep it simple. They could utilise half the number of nerds to simply get a couple of data-monkeys that can type over 100wpm to simply type the dialogue from commentary and scorers, and simply keep adding updates to the top of the page… it gives you everything you need to know, and none of the added crap (sponsors logos, banner ads etc). Someone got paid a pretty penny to make the AusOpen golf site… from the karma point of view, I hope they’re the same people trying to resurrect it from the dead :)

Yes how about a live running commentary like at baggygreen.com.au. Its not hard. Wait – no – apparently it IS hard. This website live scoring and television meltdown has to be one of the most embarrassing phukups this year. All they need now is unplayable greens like at Victoria a few years ago and we’ve got the whole shootin’ match. As Jeff Kennett said – dealing with the AGU is like amateur hour.

|
Surely the idoits on 7 know the scoring site isn’t working and could put up the field scores but NO that would be to thoughtfull, can’t even have a bet.
|
|
dougie1 – It’s probably all automated – hard to change that at the last minute. Blame is squarely on the AGU – I bet ch7 are ropeable.

I’m having a moment of schadenfreude here, it’s fantastic. In ‘98 I worked for Hostworks and maintained the cricinfo servers. The people that developed the site did an amazing job. The site was running on IIS across 4 quad-processor Compaq servers running off the back of a 350-Megabit link. It was truly impressive to watch the stats as Sachin Tendulkar came into bat. 400,000 people from India all connected to the server in a matter of minutes, and the graphs all basically turned into these massive vertical spikes. The important things was: it didn’t go down. At all. Perhaps they should give my old bosses a call and get a quote on something that actually works :)
