Hey goodgolfers! was just looking at results from NSW open apart from the top 15 scores ova’s werent of a high standard I thought….I just arrived ere from Ireland and thought I saw cut off of +4 for this tournament…This can not be the case!!! also can someone clarify was this amateur only comp…thanks Ciaran

It was pissing down on friday, and was windy, play was stopped for about 2 hours…. They thought the cut would be between 8-9 over… lucky the rain eased.

Every day was tough but sat/sun.

Whoback72

You may want to try and play the course one day.

One of the toughest track you will find.

Welcome whosback72.

Your eyes weren’t deceiving you, in fact the cut was +5. Conditions on the first 2 days would be more like they were playing in Ireland. A difficult course at the best of times, but with it being pretty open to the elements, wind and rain certainly made the course a whole lot harder.

No it was not an amateur comp. The concept of a Pro Am style on the last two days was an innovative idea, (copying some of the tourneys on the European circut) to get others involved with some
$$$$’s they could afford to spend and let the sponsors have some involvement.

As others have stated, not for the purists, but I believe it worked a treat and not too many grumblings from the Pro’s either. (or so I have heard)

I agree with TheMenace, if you get a chance to have a hit at The Vintage, do it. I plan to have a hit there next Thursday, so hoping the course will still be pretty close to tourney conditions to get a feel for what they had to play.

Well done The Vintage…..and all those responsible for the event.

I’ve spoken to a few players and they have nothing but positive comments about the layout.

I’m up there as soon as I can….anyone know the freight to play there?

iseekgolf…another fantastic coverage of these Von Nida’s…you guys are producing some great stuff…

and great images, your photographer gets right up in there and under their noses, love the close ups of the players and their expression…he must be close to get that stuff.

Hi Doggy_Please.. Re your query;

I’m up there as soon as I can….anyone know the freight to play there?

Have a look at the ‘Discount Fees’ section, 15% discount offered. Pretty good value for the course. $72.00 Mon-Thu – about $90 odd on weekends.

only ever played with one +4 guy and that was rory mcilroy and wind n stuff does not affect him in the slightest….+5 guys shootin 78 80…leave me baffled!!!! do you get point (0.1) for return of scores over CSS over here?

72 dollars seems like a super deal if its a super course! any other big opens tournaments coming up? close to sydney?play off 1 myself

I was up there the weekend before hand and the course (even after is pissed down on Friday night) was in sensational conditon..

$72 is well worth it..

It happens sometimes. Check out the scores to the US Open 2006

low markers get .2 if they are far enough off the mark.

down and out…did ya get that?

yeah i get wot your sayin but this was 7000+ yard course par 70!!!wit tight fairways n off the guage lightening fast greens…..how guys can shoot 80 80 and walk away playing off +4/5 is beyond me!!!!we have guys like that in ireland who rarely play outside there own track n never return poor scores….n as a result are off +1/2…...tho how a man gets to +5 is beyond me!!!! without been a superstar that is…..rory mcillroy was off +4 n every1 knew he would make it on tour!!!! maybe a home course having a high CSS helps these guys!!!!!
in eire we only get .1 for outside buffer zone scores

I must be Irish as well Whosback72, either that or I am missing something in the written translations that are happening here.

I assumed your first query was the cut at the NSW Open to play the last two days was levelled at 4 over the card ie +4.

I responded that the cut was +5. Idid not mean for you to assume that the amateurs that played on the final two days with the pros were off handicaps of +5, or that is the way it seems you have taken it.

Don’t know what the amateurs were playing off, some were good and some were very ordinary.

Now I am more confused than ever, hope it’s clear for you now.

aw the cut was +5….i had thought the HC cut off was PLUS 5!!!!!!!!! what was the handicap limit.????..apologies!!!!!

O.K. for the first 2 days it was Pro’s only playing, the cut was made at +5 which left 59 Pro’s to complete the final 2 days for the trophy. Over the final 2 days, the Pro’s were joined by a number of amateurs who paid $$$$’s for the privilege of playing with the Pro’s.

I am not aware of any handicap limit for the amateurs. There only limit was how much money they had in the bank or whether they were part of the sponsors. (I can’t be sure of this as I sure didn’t have the $$$’s to be a party to it)

get it now! so if you went out 2 watch the leader in his final round he might have been teamed with some guy shooting 120!!! doesnt seem fair on the pro!!!!!!thanks

There were top level amateurs playing in the tournament also that didn’t pay anything. They would have been either invited by the NSWGA (normally State team players get invited to their state open) or pre-qualified. Handicap cut-off for pre-Q would be about 2 or 3.

Completely different to the paying amateurs who would have only been part of a pro-am/handicap side-event. And I’m sure they would not have been playing stroke.

Quite true Boonie. I didn’t go into the finer details as I seemed to have confused the crap out of Whosback72 anyway. Thought I would just keep it simple. Thanks for the further clarifications.

The handicap limit was 18 ,the format was a 4bbb with the pro .The amateurs played off the regular member tees ,still not a pushover and the pros off the championship back tees. The amateur players were required to pick up if they could not score any points.
Most of the amateur players were off 0-12 handicaps, the amateur in the last group shot 3 over on the sunday.

and they were in carts…. which made it a bit faster

John Newcombe shot a three over? For what I saw of that group, there must have been a few mulligans.

Still, a great event The Vintage and looking forward to next year’s event.
