Brendan Gorman has just placed 3rd in the RE/MAX World Long Drive Finals in the Grand Champion division (61 years and over) in Mesquite Nevada. This is the best ever result by an Australian. It also gives Brendan an automatic entry into next years World Championships. Congratulations Brendan on a great effort.

John Seiffer competed in Super Senior division earlier in the week but unfortunately missed making the final playoffs. A great effort though with the best in the world.

Brent Kearney our Australin Champion in the Open division hits on Friday (Saturday our time) He came 18th in the world last year and is looking a great chance for a very high finish this year.

Tony is that you??

looking forward to the finals of the open division with balls going to 393 today.

If someone tells you you are a swinger and then proceeds to try and make you a hitter ... run Quickly...

Beside guru on the range ....

just to clarify thats 393 yards

Why can’t these long driver champions build the rest of their golf game around their long driving advantage and win? They hit it straight enough looking at some of those youtube long drive videos.

quite a few are single figure golfers (some even scratch markers i believe).
my thoughts are that consistency and control are the issues.
they get 6 balls in long drive & may only hit 1 or 2 in the grid. on a regular course this may only translate to 4 of 14 fairways, and some of the misses can be ugly.
putting can be almost 50% of your golf shots, so if you can’t chip & putt bombing it 350m down the fairway is not a huge advantage.
in saying that it may also be application of themselves. they put all of their focus and energy into long drive. if they switched and put their focus into the whole game of golf they may succeed.
its an interesting topic.

Mike dobblyn recently drove a par 5 in 1 shot 551 yds what score did he walk off with ? he was playing on the hooters tour at dragon ridge he had a 440 carry over water to negotiate.

Hi Tim, Yes it’s me!

Brent Kearney our Open Men’s Australian Champion has just made it through to the final 24. In the opens there are 128 finalists from all around the world. From the 24 they take it down to the final 8, then they play one on one match play until just one left. Hopefully that will be Brent. The finals are Saturday Nevada time, so it will be early morning tomorrow. Anyone that’s interested can look at the live updates at http://www.longdrivers.com/remax.php

Lets hope we can get an Australian Champion tomorrow!!

Just on the note of long drivers and playing golf. There are quite a few very good golfers amongst the long drivers. Mark Bylsma for example played in the NSW PGA this year. Brent himself has only been playing golf for 2 years and is already down to a single figure handicap. There are also some PGA pros that compete.

Good luck Brent!!!

So in a nut shell how do you become the long drive champion. Is it an average of a number of drives or simply hit the longest one and you win?

Won by Mike Dobbyn with a drive of 385 in the final.

You have to qualify then you need to make it through each stage and in semi finals you are in a match against 1 person 6 drives longest wins .
Mike dobbyn was trailing coming to his last drive in semi finals and smacked one 395 down the middle to win.

He took a 4 (birdie with 2 putts). There’s no water on that hole just a very dry rocky creek bed. Mike estimated that the ball carried over 400m before coming to rest by the green.

Also FWIW he shot 92 in that round.

I knew he took 4 was just seeing if others on here new.
i was told over water not that it makes much d the ball still went 551.
Now officially recognised as the longest drive ever on any us tour.
