The crazy people who bought out Sam Christie at the Golf Works have sold out to Drummonds for a monstrous loss. So if you go buying at the Gabba store its really Drummonds. The other stores hate they idea but have no choice having made their bed.

Drummonds have brought out all of Eddie Groves interests in System golf, 51%. Golfworks was part of that sale, Jon…

Talk is Drummonds is about float and go public!
i hope they do go public because they will fall flat on their arse, there is just too much competion for golf gear, although saying that their are a lot of dills who go in and buy off the shelf without asking for a discount. the place where i go usually gives me about cost plus 10-15%, i can’t find any store that can do better than that, they may not sell it at a big profit but they get a hell of a lot of business though word of mouth.
i dont know what drummond store you go to mate, but i get cost plus 5% from my local store, its the same at any golf shop you go to, if you dont ask for the disscount you wont get it

Poor “ole” Sam Christie – to see his store go down the tube. Just goes to show, just because “Eddie” has money, doesn’t make him an expert in everything.
Don’t know about Drummonds floating. I think the reason for the QLD expansion is tit for tat because GolfMart are moving into Melbourne. That’s what I heard, anyway.

Drummonds could not refuse a give me price. After loosing just about the lot they had to sell out to someone. Took a great business and turned it into a water filled bunker with no drain plug. Staff tried to tell the “know alls” right from the start – but no they wouldn’t listen” A million or two down the drain in just 18 months. 50% of the best staff walked out within the first 2-3 months. The big losers will be the other shops that joined them and the GolfWorks Pro shops. Get ready for a stock firesale at the Gabba very very soon. As for Drummonds going public. Well I guess raising money to pay for things is a good business principal but….....

Cost is a subjective thing. Go to an independant and get cost plus 10% or go to a franchise and get cost plus 5%. Independant may or may not pay more to the distributor than the franchise store but the franchise store pays a franchise fee (%) to the master franchise company. The other little trick is the term cost (cost of product) or store cost (total cost) – huge difference. If an object costs $100 store cost could be $150. For those who may not know the difference in the 2 terms product cost is just that – cost of product including shipping. Store cost is the above product cost PLUS an estimated share of rent, wages, advertising etc etc (all overheads) Franchised store chains use the “store” cost term all the time (Harvey Norman are the experts in the usage of the term). It the same as 50% off – 50% off what. 100, 200, 300 % markup? Percentages off or on a non fixed price sound good but are totally useless and used in 90% of cases to fudge the real issue – are you getting the best price.

Who knows. They are independantly owned so it;s their decision. Underwood has a brand new Drummonds just 500-700mtrs away in a much better centre. Aspley is far enough away as are the others. Personally I would go my own way or join someone else. Drummonds are living of the franchise fees and are performing only just

Yodaboy, This hasn’t been annouced publicly has it??? How did you come by this information?
I have heard from a mate of mine back in Aussie that “Eddie Groves” has not signed off on selling Golf Works yet to Drummond.
You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work. |
Personally I think he should cut his losses…..
I don’t know where all you people shop but i get 10% off cost and they give me $50 cash with everything i buy. Get on board.
To…...aplayer…....That sounds like a great deal! The thing is, I get ALL of my golf stuff for free which is even a better deal don’t you think? They even pay me to use it which is even a better deal? I will give you a tip, you will not get much help on this forum by saying, “get a life”. The vast majority of people on this forum do have a life. Gee, my beer tastes good at the moment with my “free” equipment and not 10% off cost and a $50 cashback. A couple of years ago I also picked up a nice rug but it was in India.
You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work. |
aplayer Think you have been smokin’ to much of the wacky weed mate.
I think you’ve got your hand on it mate. I’ve read some of your posts and you have got to be the biggest name dropper of all time. If you are as good as you think you are you wouldn’t have time to sit down and think up all this bullshit. Wake up to yourself.
Thanks Donk….I will take your advice on this one.
You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work. |

Donk You are getting the same response in these forums to that which Scrotum gets….take some happy pills mate and then return.

So yodaboy…... The gabba shop is still badged golfworks and all the boys inside are still wearing golfworks shirts. Was your information legit or are you full of it???
Golf works has changed considerably since I bought my first set of clubs there 20 yrs ago. It was never the same after Dave left a couple of yrs ago. Still they stock a good range and plenty of deals for the beginner to the keen players.Personally I don’t think its good for the consumers if Drummond takes over .Have nothing against Drummond have bought off them recently but less competition wont benefit golfers. And Yodaboy hasn’t replied to the question if his info is accurate.Playing a waiting game?or asleep-
No matter how bad your game it is always possible to get better or worse |
Just found this topic golf works has indeed become a drummond store, I did not recognise most of the staff, there seemed to be a lack of stock and after wandering around for 20 minutes waiting to buy a couple of new wedges I wandered out. They were a great store great prices and staff who actually remembered your name, but it seems not any more.A true shame

Not full of it – been away and if you haven’t seen the changes as yet don’t bother. RickBenson summed it up – that’s how I found it after Christmas. Even the webshop has gone to call for price on EVERYTHING. Waste of time going to that site now. Amazing how fast a place can go down hill.

you still havent told us how you became privy to the information before the public…. Are you a disgruntled employee???
Excuse my ignorance everyone, but from reading the posts in this topic I get the impression that the majority of us are of the feeling that Drummond Golf is hopeless and that The Golf Works seems to have a soft spot in everyone’s heart. Just wondering what the reason for this is.
