shots into the wind

As i play alot of golf along the coastlines of NSW I was just wondering if when hitting into the wind do people take a lower club and play a half shot to try and keep the ball out of the wind or do you take an extra club and play at it as normal.

I usually take a longer club (or maybe the same club, depending on how strong the wind is) and attempt to hit a low shot. It rarely works, but one day I will either work out how to do it or give up.

i did it once at barnbougle into the howling wind of the very short par 3 7’th…

landed it flush on the green by playing a gentle 7 iron off my back foot. the hole is only 110m or so.

haven’t been able to do anything nearly as sexy since.

Take more club…put the ball back…and swing easy…

Swinging easy takes the spin off it to stop it balooning. A lot of it is experimenting though…you will normally need more club into the wind than you think…a head wind has more effect than a tail wind on distance.

down and out…did ya get that?

wedge are you a tasmanian local

Irons only – go a club, two, or three up, and keep it low!

I'll put a bullet in your ass 'cuz its the American way!

How about the bane of my life, driver into a strong wind ? Do you move it back, tee it down, hit it easy, smash it hard ? I have half an idea what to do with irons, but getting something that will still go a decent distance into the wind off the tee escapes me.

Tee it low, back towards the middle of your stance just a little, then use an abbreviated follow thru, like hitting. Don’t go for the big exagerated swing.( less chance of too much spin, I think) Only need to get it 5 or 6 mt off the ground. Thats what works for me.

The main problem with wind is “SPIN” The wind will magnify the wind’s effect on a ball – so if you have sidespin, or backspin the effect will be magnified. Now . . . this does not mean the spin rate will magically double or triple – it means that the ball will behave differnently as it goes THROUGH the wind

So all I do in the wind is take spin off each shot, I do not compress the ball as much, this keeps the flight down and stops the wind hurting the ball flight too much. You can still hit low shots – but try doing it by not hitting it as hard… not by trying hard to keep it low.

With a driver, just move the ball back an inch or so . . . and put a normal swing on it… the balls are so good these days that is really all you need to do.

Have a play and see what happens…

swing with ease into the breeze…

For sure go up aclub and swing easy
