Don't know about best player, but this guy has the coolest name.

Dow Finsterwald

Almost sounds dirty.

I reckon Gay Brewer is pretty unfortunate.

Fred Couples... or Davis Love III

Tony Lema was supposed to have some serious game. Got killed in a plane crash before he could win any others

Win some cash with this one.

Pub quiz: How many chicks have won men's golf majors

Answer: 2 - Chick Evans and Chick Harbert

You'll find that Ball, Travers and Little won more than one Major

Of the professionals - probably Mangrum

Tom Kite - he won more money than any of them.

Travers won just the one professional major - and four US amateurs
Lawson Little one US Open and two US amateurs

Yes- not bad for an Amateur in less than a 10 year period

Lawson Little one US Open and two US amateurs

+ 2 UK Amateurs - once again pretty good for an Amateur in a 7 yr period

BTW - Ball won 8 UK Amateurs to boot

Fred Couples... or Davis Love III

Got to agree. I started watching Davis in the mid 90s and thought he had the game to win 5 or more. Great disappointment that he didn't.

I'll go with Fred Couples if his back had held up i think he might have won 3 to 4.

Bit before my time but apparently Tom Weiskopf was one hell of a player in the early 70's.

Loved watching Boom Boom Couples play - superb tempo. Without injury I think him & Elk would have won more including majors.

Freddy Couples.

woohoo my birthday today!! 14 y/o

I'll go with Couples or Duval.

Lehman isn't too bad and Leonard can blame technology for leaving him behind!

Tom Kite.
He could win on any course in any conditions and was in contention more than anybody during his career, hence the "highest money winner ever" tag that he carried until prizemoney skyrocketed.

Couples was good but never really a good enough putter or straight enough hitter to contend in the US Opens. Love was better and should have won more but didn't.

Duval was the best player in the world for a while. This in a time when Tiger was around. How good might he have been if he didn't just lose interest.

Tom Weiskopf had the swing and the ball striking to beat anybody. Unfortunately, it only took one bad shot to see his hole round unravel as he became disgusted with himself. Alcoholism also had a detrimental affect on his game.

Is that a name or an occupation? tongue.gif

2nd that...what a short game...

sigs are back – YAY

Whithout [IMHO] any hesitation, Tom Lehman.

Wasn't it more a loss of form and injury?

There's a great interview with him on the Golf Digest website.

With my limited knowledge and scanning the list

Ogilvy
Wier
Couples
Kite
Love

David Duval

Yeah, it was an injury that started the slide. It was the "I've reached the top, what now?" attitude I think that stopped him getting his game back after the injury.

he used to be one of the fittest blokes in golf, he was pmping weights before Tiger was!

Now he's a fat slob, which screams of not really caring too much anymore.

Anyone who was # 1 for an extended period while Tiger is around, is a pretty good golfer !

Kite or COuples for sure. I was going to say hopefully we can add Ogilvey in the future but then again, hopefully he will win more majors and remove himself from the list!
