I was looking through the Ping website and entered a relatively new section in dedication toward the tour pros. Being a Ping player myself I had an interest just to see what the guys were using. Through looking at this I noticed that the putter lengths were right up there. I'd once heard that you'll find most tour players using a putter at around the 32-34 mark. I was a little surprised to see that a large majority of them were more around the 34-34+ mark. I know there are factors when determining putter length, however, with curiosity what is you putter length and with that length had you been fitted professionally?

33" The arms seem to hang naturally, and consistency has improved.

Mine's only 24'', but it's pretty thick.

I've never been properly fitted for a putter. I now think
fitting sounds pretty logical, but I never realised the
advantages until recently. I'm only 6'1"+, but
measure an inch over in the irons, therefore, I use a 35"
putter, for no other reason than that

got a Ping Pal2 cut to 33" and fits real good and rolls nice. The Scotty has been trimmed to 33.5" and hangs nice also. both as good as each other now. the pal was 36" and scotty was 35"
putt,putt,putt,pftt.

35" but I am almost 6'5", and the Monza Corsa I have started using has a short hosel so feels pretty short anyway so can't imagine going any shorter.

I'm five foot nine inches tall, I use a 32 inch putter. I feel that my arms hang a little better with the shorter putter, having said that I have relatively long arms.

Had a 34" Odyssey two-ball blade off the shelf. Cut it down
to 33" because I scuffed the green behind the ball too much
and my arms weren't hanging straight enough. It's better
for length now ... all the other aspects like lie, alignment and
ball roll have always seemed OK. I'm just under 6'4"
(193cm).

Very interesting topic. I have a 35" Scotty Cameron Circa 62 which i feel is too long (it was the only length you could buy it in). Question, is it adsvisable to have this shortened by an inch? I had one person at a Golf Shop recommend against this. He said the MOST he would shorten it by is 1/2". I am exactly 6' tall. Any comments welcomed...

Did he say why? Cutting it down will make the shaft a tiny fraction stiffer, but putter shaft flex is not critical, as the slow clubhead speed of a putter means the shaft doesn't exactly load much (you cut the butt anyway, reducing any stiffening). You'd probably hardly notice any difference. The more important considerations are your own putter stance and stroke, and the lie. You want your eyes over the ball and your hands and arms to hang straight in a comfortable stance, not bent to accommodate the length of the putter because it introduces looseness into the stroke. You also don't want to cut the putter down too much and find you are playing with it too "toe down". Go with the length you find most comfortable, one that gets you properly over the ball. Get a similar 33" or 34" putter and test how it feels compared to yours. If finally you cut it and then think it's too short, you can always extend it back (again under the grip) with little deleterious effect.

Is professional fitting recommended? In StephG's case buying a Scotty and hacking into it by yourself is not something I'd attempt.
