My sis and partner are soon on a trip to Townsville for a weekend. The hacker says he wants to get a round of golf in while they're up there. Any suggestions as to where he might play? We lived there for a year, but i was 6 at the time and yet to hear of a silly little game called golf.

Thanks

OnaBreak

, -- sorry to say this but as a member of Townsville golf club I have to say that our club is a little better!!!

No - - in all seriousness Willlows is a great course...

I've been a member for a while now... we have 36 holes which gives the golfing day a little more variety... it all depends where your brother is staying.. willows is a little out.

Here's the website http://www.townsvillegolfcl...

I am always avaliable to give a tour of Townsville if he wants laugh.gif But I will have to find time out of my "BUSY" uni schedule 8) 8)

Willows did hold the Qld masters last year so the course is in good knick, and the fact that we are getting lots of rain helps!!!!

If they have any questions about were to go in Townsville, drop me an email of PM!!!

Cheers

Brother lives on the 16th fairway 8)

Onewood,

I used to live in the street running onto the 15th fairway/green. Small world.

Damo cheers mate, Ill pass along Townsville G.C as well. I'll let the choppa know that theres a half decent queenslander who may be up for a hit, and ill PM if he wants. I think they're gonna have a look see at o'l Magnetic island, we went as little tackers and i think the old girl wants to remenise a bit.

Now if i was to judge these two courses based solely on the websites, its gotto go to the Willows, thats a nice site and a good peice of advertising.

As far as all the courses go, Townsville is the best, and with 27 holes should be easier to get on, But why not play them all?

The Willows and the other one (north side) can also be enjoyable courses to play, although i felt that the Willows is a bit harsh, but maybe in recent times conditioning has improved to make it a bit more playable.

He might also want to make a trip to Magnetic Island, quite a short but not easy course, although may still be sand greens.

For further information, send me a PM?

half decent queenslander

I'm not a Queenslander

Thankfully

the other one (north side) can also be enjoyable

Might you mean Rowes Bay GC?

Rowes Bay GC?

If that is the course you mea., than yeah, it OK.. definately not as good as the other two but it worth a hit... though its a little rougher than the rest

Willows is a top course, played all my junior golf there.
It will give your game a good workout as it is a quite long and demanding track.

Townsville is not bad either, just not as difficult.

half decent queenslander

i prolly should have put a smiley face or something after that 'half decent' remark. Usually i wait a couple of weeks to get to know someone before the mocking and ribbing begins in earnest. I think the lack of physical reprisals is affecting my timing.

jarro

, - I shouldn't tell you that I am Tasmanian  Now I will be treated even worse (maybe not as bad a a cockroach!!!!!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif )

I'd play both courses if I could though.. Willows is really trying to push the tourist dollar at the moment (as small as it is in Townsville - Cairns whipps us!!) The website has only been up for three months...

AS to access to the course, you can pretty much get on at any times except weekends and between 10-2. The cost isn't too bad either... people in Townsville are really spoilt, you can get 18 holes and buggy for about $40-$45... people here complain about that

What ever they choose.. I am happy to be their guide, give a little local knowledge...I have lectures monday and friday so a game on those days would be perfect laugh.gif 8)

the other one (north side) can also be enjoyable

Might you mean Rowes Bay GC?

Well I certainly wasnt thinking about Ingham :-)

I enjoyed the handfull of games i played there, agreed its a bit rough, but often a diversion is required.

I also heard there is another course built on the northern side ?

For further information, send me a PM?

There is Mystic Sands about 40 km north of Townsville. 9 holes and 18 tees. Suffered a bit in the dry but should have come up good after the rain. They play a pro am there every year, Kel NAGLE's brother is the pro there.

Play The Willows and Townsville. If you want a third course, go for a drive and play a course that WAY too few people have played. Ayr. It is excellent.

It's called Turlte point now now, used be called Laguna Queys, its ranked number one resort course... the Japanese dollar is big there, they built an airport just for tourism s oyou can get flights there now, but driving fro mTownsville is a good 3 hours drive... just dont stop off at any towns on the way (Banjo plays in the background!!!) laugh.gif

Just Happen to read this little Townsville bit and I had to Laugh laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Willows has been under new reconstruction work for the past year and a bit and I might add if your a big hitter the fair way are rock hard and your ball will run for ever due to that fact, but don't bring your brand new clubs because they'll look very second hand after the 18 holes.
Townsville golf course golfers are the biggest winges of all time :x  ,every tree is mowed around to the same hieght as the fair way,so they have know idear of what rough is and there in the middle of replacing some of there greens because they have 27 holes they think where ever they go golf has to be played at one and a half hours for nine hole and if it takes longer they chuck a poo and swear never to come back, then you'll see them two weeks later.
I can tell you both clubs are very good but Rowes Bay is the most Laid back club
you will see here and one of the toughest as for being rough thats tripe!we have rough that's why you have a fair way,say out of the rough you'll have a good day.

Come and have a hit the course is in the best condition and the people at the club are the friendiest

Ayr is a comfortable drive less than an hour south of Townsville, and is the town's club. In no way is it linked to the Turtle Point resort much further south.

Rowes Bay is pleasant. But if you don't live in Townsville then there is no use playing it. North Queensland is a long way for most people to travel just to play Rowes Bay. There are plenty enough nice locals in Townsville without having to go to a second rate course just to meet them. It is not in the same stratosphere as Willows/Townsville/Ayr.

I played in the Ayr Mini Masters 24/25 of Jan and if you think or even dreamed it's in better nic than the bay your having your self on mate  .Not to mention every one on this site :!:
$17.00 to play 18 holes it's the cheapest and the best buy far :!:

Just found out I'm talking to a VIC:roll: .Another one that wouldn't know his ass from his elbow.

ttitheridge

, - Sorry mate, my mistake... Ayr is a nice course however, and come to think of it I found everyone there to be very FRIENDLY
laugh.gif laugh.gif

As for the other banter mybe it should be left for another thread!!!!!! Maybe...

AS for the price of the courses, I think Willows is only $18 for 18 holes last time played. When I first moved here the two courses I made sure to play first was Willows and Townsville... I played Rowes Bay.. but being winter it wasn't in teh greatest condition (All the courses look great here now because it is the wet season!!!!).

The problem with Townsville is there is great competition between all the clubs because the golfing population is so small in terms of membership and social players. Some of the clubs here survive on the strength of their members, however unfortunately certain clubs have to hire salesman to go door-to-door to raise social and perspective players. With this consideration though you can get a decent game of golf... people in Townsville golfers are fairly spoilt, they can have the quality of courses they do with such a small demographic; while keeping green fees fairly low...

Now as to winges.. you find them were ever you go... some people must just attract them more :?: :?:

Anyway...

As to golf in Townsville... if there is a hole with a flag in it with people hitting that little white ball... I will be more than willing to show you around
