This year I have decided to go in a different direction with my golf.

I have not renewed my membership at Forest Resort. (In 12 months at Creswick, I played 12 competition rounds!) Instead, I have joined Bushranger Golf so that I am still able to maintain a handicap.

I will be playing the ISG OOM days, as well as some Outer Rim games (e.g. Bman’s Bendigo Shootout), and the ISG Matchplay.

I will also play some of the SGA Tour events, along with a variety of other events like “Race to the Sands”, some open days through Golflink, a few 36 hole tournaments (eg Trentham, Eaglehawk, maybe Maryborough).

I am also open to any “sponsor” invites that may be offered to any club comps.

This will entail a great deal of organisation, and I am in the process of making a list of events throughout the year that will be considered for play (depending on bank balance and work commitments). I have already noticed that there are a couple of clashes, so hard decisions will need to be made!

By going in this direction, it does not tie me to a particular club, where you feel you have to play just to get your moneys worth. But it does offer me a variety of courses to play, which will hopefully produce a greater enjoyment of the game, on top of what it already gives me.

My first foray into this new golfing world, is to play a game with my Dad on Sat 30th back at Eaglehawk, where I learned the game oh so many many years ago. (on sand scrapes too!!!) Hopefully I will be able to get up to Eaglehawk a few more times this year, as I have been very slack.

I am also hoping that my Dad will partner me in this years Vic Golf Foundation Day at Royal Melbourne. Im hoping it wont take too much convincing to get him to play.(He is 78, and still plays off 10-12 after being in singles for a long while) I’m sure he shot his age not that long ago either!

All the best Bully! I find that the thing that I get from my golf clubs is the friendships and mates you make. Are you concerned about that aspect by taking this approach?

Currently I have 19 events on my Calendar. A couple of those are conflicts, so will have to decide where to play.

April, June, July and August are a bit scarce for games. Anyone know of any tournaments on around that time?

October & November will be a problem as there will be several club tournaments on, Trentham, Eaglehawk, as well as ISG National Champs, Mt. Xavier Pro-Am, Metro Open Day and the Victorian Amateur Foursomes Champ. Lots to choose from.

It’s not an amateur tournament but we have a spare spot at Rosebud Country Club on 13 April.

If you get the time to come over for the Southern Ports Golf Week held in the last week of February/First Saturday of March each year for the past 38 seasons. Played at Kingston SE, Robe and Beachport courses 3 days 18 holes stroke A/B grades and stableford in C grade.

A fun week of golfing

Have fun all season and you are welcome to come play the three courses all in 30 mins of each other any time. Beachport and Robe comps on Sundays and Kingston on Saturday

Don’t know if you’d call the ISG crew ‘friends’! More just similarly inflicted dullards with a penchant for excessive golf and posting crap on public forums!

Hi Bully, Beaufort has a 36 hole event on about the 22nd June. Not far from you and good fun day. Cheap entry awesome meal at halfway and as many CWA cakes afterwards you can eat.

Just thinking about it most of the other country clubs in the Ballarat area also have tournaments around that time. Skipton has a 27 hole comp around the queens birthday weekend is one that comes to mind.

If you don’t mind scrapes also Avoca is in the quiet time frame.
