Members Day...... Does it still exist at your club

Why is this not a 6 day membership? Again, if there was another category of 6 day membership for which the fees were greater but which was only open to men, then the men could potentially make a claim to be entitled to an “associate” membership. No membership categories should be restricted by gender (or for that matter race, religion etc).

Peg, There have been all manner of suggestions, offers of advice, what happens at other clubs, etc, etc, etc. I think, mind you, this is after watching a very good Bronco’s win and few beers, (OK a lot of beers and a bottle of red) you already know in your head and in your heart what needs to be done and I’m sure you will do it. I don’t know you all that well, but of what I do know, you will do what is best for the club on a whole, not just a few members who may need to be dragged kickin and screamin into the 21st Century. As you say, they will have other options if they do not like the decisions made by the board for the good of the club. NOT FOR THE GOOD OF A FEW. From what you have stated previously, all members pay the same freight, therefore they are ALL members with equal rights. Very simple really. Hiccc… As they say in Nike land….. Just Do It…... Tick

Commish Thanks for the vote of confidence. This is the plan, aggrieved lady golfer i.e Secretary letter will be tabled. Debate on contents will be deliberately curtailed. Motion will then be put by Treasurer which will read along the lines of This motion will be passed, I have made sure of the numbers. Part 2 of plan is to address golfers on Saturday to make sure that they all understand this decision. It is a Board decision and as such over rules anything being considered by Match Committees. anybody who fails to accept the fact that we all have equal playing rights and that with the changes in peoples way of live we all need to be accommodating and to put the best interests of the golf club above and beyond any other ill conceived issues, will be dealt with in a manner seen as appropriate by the Board. Part 3 I have spoken to the cranky Secretary and expressed a view that though what was said was wrong her reaction could be seen as damaging coming from a Board Member and would she consider apologising for some of the terms used if the other party also apologises for his statements. Such an apology would be good for stability within the club. Yes, she would do so and had been thinking that herself. Now to get apology forthcoming from dinosaur and we can put this thing to bed, with a clear and uncompromising statement from the Board.

Well thought out and i applaud you. Legally you prob cannot keep referring to lady/men members, you can use term MEMBER for both. Ie ALL Members (regardless of gender). Congrats!

Suggestion: Have a mixed 4 ball event. Make it a major club event to welcome the new dawn.
Treat every putt as if it was your last – One day it will be. |

Thanks xmaggiex….... Referring to male/female was only to show the waring parties. As far as I am concerned we have members who all have the same rights and that is the only way forward for my club…

She tabled her detailed letter which covered all and sundry and was 10 pages long with copy and paste articles from magazines, forums etc with it… Did she have a say no, she is still to cranky and would have more than likely lost it with all and sundry which would have been self defeating for her cause. She sat and listened for a while and I could see she was about to loose it, but she did as I suggested. Which was to just get up and walk away. Some of the Board members couldn’t understand why, that could be seen as them not understanding the whole issue

Fair enough; sometimes the person with the passion is most effective at creating change. It takes some moxie to stay calm when faced with large opposition. There is no shame in walking away to fight another day ; )

Peg Its not always easy being a LEADER. I applaud your “moxie” as 2putts says;) Change will occur it has too. Hopefully not to late for most of the clubs out there. You have planted the seeds in peoples mind on what is right and what needs to happen. Let people think about it and grow some..balls. When the time is right try again.

This comes to mind when one thinks of our secretary, paint was being stripped off cars in the carpark when she let fly at the instigator of this current troubles
And that would have done her cause no good at the Board meeting

Sitting back today reflecting on the events Mads….... Would like to see the look on a couple of faces if the girls said “You know, we have had enough of this discrimination, lets get some legal advice and see what we can do.” I don’t think the smell in the club would be very good

Well here’s hoping that bringing up the argument starts the wheels turning in the heads of some of these people. Don’t count out the like-minded men who think like you but don’t care enough about it to make a fuss because it doesn’t affect them. When you manage to swing the largely silent majority, it can roll over those hold outs who think that their views are representative.

I have been surprised at the number of members who want to know what happened about allowing ladies to play…....... Those on the Board blocking are in the minority, so will have to work on plan B which will flock ‘em
