Don’t know about person going to the next tee and hitting off before the hole is finished but ffs don’t everyone stand on the green and dissect each shot you just played on that hole before you move to the next tee.

Golf is not, and never has been, a fair game.

Sounds like a pre shot routine to me albeit a very short one;)

It is i suppose. But you wouldnt know it watching it.

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

if you lose ground the best way i know to regain it is for the group to agree that as soon as the first player has putted out, he will head to the next tee and tee off ( making sure not to hit while someone else is putting) the second player putting out will do the same, etc, etc and the final player will replace the flag himself.

im not entirely sold on this hcwt,
only 1 set of eyes to watch the errant T shot/s

also is the duty of the lowest marker to bring to the groups attention the speed of play

Always Always stand behind when playing in Shreks group
hosel rockets are soooo un predictable

Its everyones responsibility… that low marker theory to me is out dated.

No issue with going to the next tee while others putt out.
And hit while others putt….this happens anyway with groups ahead. If a noise from another drive distracts i suggest your too easily distracted

I agree on having a short pre shot routine. Do as much of it when waiting for your turn, then step up and hit .

Cut the search time for a lost ball to the 5 min allowed in the rules instead of 7 or 8 min spent by those that play balls they can’t afford to lose. Also call the following group through as soon as you realise the ball won’t be easily found not 5 min after search starts. If it’s not in the fairway you hit a crap shot and deserve to lose it.

I, for one am sick and tired of reminding players week in week out to keep their position in the field (keeping up with the group in front). Grow up and stop being so selfish on the course.

FFS most of these blokes have been at the club for years and it seems that as soon as they hit the course they go off into their own little world and forget about everyone else.

It is EVERY player’s responsibility to make sure that they keep the pace of play moving, not just the low marker. The low marker isn’t the only adult in the group.

If you have the honour from the previous hole FFS mark your card or put your stats on your GPS after you have teed off – not hard.

If you want to have a conversation with someone then do it as you are walking to your ball, not while the group behind are waiting for you to play your shot to a clear green.

Walk to your ball, and be ready to play your shot when its your turn.

Do all of your club selection, shot selection, distances etc whilst waiting to play your shot – not when its your shot.

As I have said on other threads in the past it is always the same players who are slow week in week out and none of them believe they are slow – that is the main problem. Along with the fact that they wont be told.

That is why they should be placed at the back of the field every week and put on the clock.

The only way to find out a man’s true character is see how he reacts when a shanked ball is coming at him.

get better and play less shots. 69 shots is faster than 89 shots…just sayin…

I played with a bloke today who was frustrating the hell out of the rest of us in our group.

He was spraying his tee shots all over the place – we all have such days – but instead of watching the ball to see an approximate spot it landed, he would carry on swearing etc. We would then walk down the fairway with no idea where his ball is.

I agree that those searching for a lost ball should abide by the rules – 5 minutes max.

Having said that, should the rules bodies perhaps consider why players are spending so long looking for their balls?

Perhaps if there was less incentive to search for an extended period, few would do so? If the penalty for a lost ball was reduced from stroke + distance to just distance (playing 2 from the tee instead of 3 from the tee) then perhaps many folks would just hit a second ball rather than searching for the first to try and save the hole?

If I agreed with you we’d both be wrong.

I agree that said sprayer should be keeping an eye on where his ball goes – surely he can look and swear at the same time.

But if no one knew where his ball was, then it sounds as if no one was paying attention to where his shot went?

If every member of the group attempts to watch each shot, seems less likely that no one will have a decent idea of where the ball finished up.

If I agreed with you we’d both be wrong.

Could/should clubs consider restricting stroke (eg. medal) rounds to A grade, or perhaps A & B? Or at least give other players the option of competing in a ‘comp of the day’ but playing stableford/par rather than stroke.

What is the point of forcing a C grader to play out 8s, 10s, etc, when if they are having that sort of day, clearly they won’t be in contention for the main prize anyway.

Perhaps this idea needs some refining, but a couple of options could be:
C (or B & C) graders have the option of playing a stableford/par comp instead of stroke, on the proviso that they will not be eligible for the monthly medal.
C (or B & C) graders can abandon their stroke round at any given point and switch to stableford/par scoring. Again, on the proviso that they would not be eligible for the monthly medal.

IMO this would help to keep the field moving on stroke days, and lower grade players could still complete a proper handicap round without unduly affecting the pace of play.

If I agreed with you we’d both be wrong.

No idea why my first point was struck out, ISG must have deemed it unworthy?

Hi Madam,

Nah, I was referring to the strikethrough text on my post a couple up the list. Didn’t really think ISG had anything to do with it. Probably just something about the way the post was written triggered some sort of nerdy formatting thing.

Perhaps I should pay more attention to the IT nerds at work. I just find those propellers on top of their hats so mesmerising that I can’t seem to concentrate on anything they say :)

Played The Lakes recent,y and three Japanese blokes jumped in front of us halfway round. One of them would stand over a putt for ages before he actually putted. Then after he putted out he would drop a ball and then do it again to have a practice putt whilst we are standing there in the fairway waiting to hit into the green.

That’s a slow play issue and the other annoying one is when blokes leave their buggies in front of the green where they chipped from so after they putt they have to walk back off the green to get the buggies to walk back past the green towards the next tee whilst we all have another Birthday waiting on the tee.

Yep another game for me turned crap due to taking way to long. My golf was ordinary but the experience ruined by how slow it was. I played bexley in Syd as a visitor. A short par 64 course that still took well over 4 hrs! 2 of my group pulled out at the 7th and that left me and an old fella who was certainly not slow. Group in front were horribly slow and never invited us through despite numerous chances to as there were loads of par 3s.

To me it was just rude that the group in front would not even offer us to play through. Even the polite old fella I played with was nearly irate.

Anyway, as for solutions, nothing would have worked with the group we had in front on Sat, and unfortunately they are at every club every weekend and its damaging a great game!

No idea why my first point was struck out, ISG must have deemed it unworthy?

The stroke-out is caused by misuse of hyphens.

-Or you could do it deliberately.

Or it may fail to work at all.

Another tip is to tell your jokes after everyone has teed off and starts walking down fairway, we ve all played with that fella that holds court at ea tee box telling a gag….easily adds an extra 30 min
