Slice one club, draw the rest.

Hi all, Driving me nuts – I get a nice draw on all my irons and woods (verging on hook sometimes if I try to over do it), but my one hybrid (19 deg) keeps slicing right – tried all sorts of swing tweaks to stop it but nothing has worked – any suggestions why this one club would get such a different flight path to the rest of my bag? Cheers, S

Is the shaft and/or flex different from the others in your bag? Perhaps a different manufacturer? Keeping in mind that there is no industry standard for shaft flex so company A’s reg may be company B’s stiff. For some reason my 4 iron is easy to draw but I’m a natural slicer of all the other identically (uniflex) shafted irons in my set, and with all my other clubs. There’s just something about the 4i that wants to go left…..

hybrids are gay, stop using it…........

Ah but that gay hybrid fills that 200m slot in my bag. When it’s straight that is.

doesnt sound like “when it’s straight” happens very often

Check shaft flex as Mububban suggests

So in theory the hybrid is slightly stiffer than the other clubs in the bag?

A straight acting gay club?

And it started as such an innocent question…...

Also check the amount of any offset on the club, (as compared to your other clubs) as this too could impact your direction issues. Also, Mekats post …....... good one.

Question, when you obtained said club, did you demo it? Like stated above, it can be numerous things like shaft flex, swing weight, moment of inertia, face depth, lie angle, offset, grip thickness, etc. Get rid of it, if you find that it is a club that is not suited to your swing and replace it with one that is.

wouldnt lie angle in relation to shaft length be a contributor here? – perhaps OPs irons are set a little upright?

yeh, had 3 and 4 hybrids in for a while, made the game too easy…..

I’d put some of my gay into you sam, anytime…..

depends on few things does your hybrid have any offset do your irons have offset shaft flex and weight a shaft that is too light or too soft can casue a slice just as shaft is too stiff or heavy..tends to be a different slice does the ball start straight then slice or does it start left then slice high or low flight? one myth like I said is that a stiff shaft can casue a slice swing path and club face angle casues the ball to slice get a lesson to understand the relationship between club face and swing path for what its worth I fade irons and draw my hybrids but its deliberate (most of the time) yet I fade driver
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

I’d get rid of it. The game is difficult enouigh without having a club that you have no confidence in, in the bag. An alternative is a 7-wood or weak 5-wood in the 20 to 24 loft range. A strong 5-wood is 18/19*.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

Thanks all for your responses. Leaning towards some new toys in the big end of the bag. Cheers, S.
