This is just a rant so apologies in advance.

Today I was having a pretty ordinary day golf-wise, but I was pretty happy because I wasn’t letting it get to me, was enjoying the day and was focussing on trying to get each 6-hole block to score better than the first one (thankfully, my final six holes was the best block of the day).

And right in the middle of the round, one of the other players started to totally shit me, to the point that I really had to work hard not to let it get to me and affect my game. First off was picking up on the 15th hole in a stroke round and going in. I don’t get why people do this, but I don’t really care. So I made some innocuous comment like “That’s it for the day for you, then?” and then started the excuses – that it was all the fault of someone or something else. Even a dig at me “Well, I wouldn’t have signed up so early, but that is the time you like to play”. So this was niggling at me, as was the fact that there were two more holes before we got back in range of the clubhouse, and there was no thought of helping us out by holding the flag or helping look for a lost ball or whatever.

But the real kicker was turning to me on the tee of the 16th and saying “So when are you going to learn to hit those clubs of yours properly?” Okay, I wasn’t having a great day, but I kept playing and kept being courteous to my group. And I assume it wasn’t meant as a dig, but jeez, what a way to ask for a frigging sand wedge upside the head.

Well the annoying thing is this person seems to have signed up to play with me deliberately. The couch commentator here suggested I take to signing up even earlier given the complaint about it.

I played medal today in the rain and was quite difficult on the front nine as I focused more on keeping dry than actually hitting decent golf shots.

But never thought of quitting. Luckily I ended up playing with a bunch of decent blokes who helped make the day enjoyable despite the conditions.

There are only a few blokes I’ve come across who can be annoying out on the course so just do my best to avoid them on the timesheets.

Deege, playing with a goose usually is a bit of an unfolding ambush. By the time their comments get to intolerable levels you’re probably 4 holes from the end and you grit your teeth over the final holes because it’s not worth doing anything else.

I find them comical. Usually, there lower hcp players (no offense)
I usually exclaim,’I cant wait to get to a low hcp to bitch like you do’

’ I can talk during your next shot so you have another excuse for playing poorly’

‘Im playing this bad as I know it frustrates you….just in case we have a match play round and I need to get inside your head’

It’s a game FFS. Say you play for the enjoyment of the game. Currently their spoiling it.

Plenty of others to play with Degee. Find a better group ;)

I am always very conscious of not trying to spoil the enjoyment of my playing partners if I’m having a bad day.

I am sure I was a bit of a pain as a junior when I remember taking myself way too seriously.

Perhaps the comment wasn’t so innocuous.

Funny thing is I have a great group that I play with regularly. When I was getting really pissed, I reassured myself by thinking how i would bitch to this forum. So thanks for the support.

I managed to cheer myself up by buying (another) new pair of shoes at the end of the round.

Im tipping it was a women who suggested you learn to hit your clubs….ive had similar experiences and why i changed golf clubs only to find there are a few vicious women at every one. I reckon Now ive learned to suck it up and give it back. Eventually they go find someone else to bully. I take the enjoyment part so seriously ill change groups if i find someone puts their name down whos a cow. I scratched a couple of weeks ago for other reasons but one player asked me why. Seems some sweat on the online booking sheets, maybe you could use that in yr favour by changing times when mrs bitch joins the group, eventually shell get it.
