EUROPEAN TOUR STATEMENT ON ANCHORING The European Tour has confirmed its support for the R&A and the USGA and their proposal for rule 14-1b – the prohibition of anchoring any club when making a stroke under the Rules of Golf. George O’Grady CBE, Chief Executive of The European Tour, said: “The European Tour has been fully involved in the consultation process which ended on February 28th, and deeply value this involvement. Our Members support the unique role played by the governing bodies in formulating the Rules of Golf. “Additionally, virtually all of our Tournament Committee and player representatives support the proposed rule even though they are aware, and have taken into account, the fact that some Members and especially our Senior Members use the anchored method. “We understand the points put forward by the PGA Tour and the PGA of America and respect and sympathise with their views, which are based on their experience and the evidence before them, and have been expressed with great concern for the game. The whole issue has received far greater focus and comment in the United States than in the rest of the world, perhaps because of the numbers of their golfers using the anchored method, and the set up in general terms of their golf courses and the firmness and speed of their greens.”

I’m pretty sure that anchoring the putter had its roots in the European Tour with the method spreading to the other tours.

Can we all agree that the PGA Tour look after one group…themselves. All they care about is sponsorship dollars and anything that drives those dollars. They have no respect for the growth of the game and all this is proved by the new season and the potential destruction of our summer of golf. They want to OWN golf, not grow it. Whilst I think there are much bigger fish to fry (the ball is my major issue) it is only spoiled US pros that are kicking up a stink. The manufacturers don’t care because you’ll still have to buy a putter from one of them and most amatures (apart from TTR) don’t care or call it cheating. They should get over themselves, they are NOT BIGGER THAN THE GAME!!!!!

Gee, by the sound of it TY it appears that the PGA Tour is about to invade Poland.
|

TTR, in golf terms, there’s not much difference.

So if we follow this through to a logical end is Finchem the Hitler of golf? (Godwins law!)
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |

Whilst I think there are much bigger fish to fry (the ball is my major issue) What’s your bg issue with the current golf ball, for argument sake?
|
|
My issue with the current ball is that when I use a long putter it goes in the hole in less shots than when I use a short putter. If the ball could be changed to go in the hole in less shots with a short putter then I would be happy. On the putter issue I use all 3 styles of putter at different times and find that each has it own benefit and its fall backs for me so I would like to see the ban dropped.

I blame Nike for anchored putting.

You have been obsessed with Nike ever since you won those Nike clubs. Those wins created a monster. I forget nothing.

Be careful Razar. I might blame you soon. I have no idea what for but I want to get in on this blame game. :-p

When you get married you will find out about the blame game. A good measure is to count the number of “you’s” that get directed at you. Logic says, counting “you’s” when under fire is a trick worth cultivating.

Whilst I think there are much bigger fish to fry (the ball is my major issue) Crrack, the ball goes too far, plain and simple. This means courses have to be longer which means rounds are longer which is another reason people are leaving, or not taking up the game. Because of the longer courses it also means that maintenance budgets for clubs have to be higher and water usage has to be higher, neither helping courses or golf flourish. More grass to mow and water wastes time and money. Lastly, the ball goes further, but it doesn’t mean the average golfer hits it any straighter which means average golfers are even slower than they were when they could only hit it 200m! As I said, this is the major issue facing golf today. Hopefully the putter ban is a test case to take on the ball manufacturers.

I had a go of a chest anchored putter up at Woodford a couple of weeks ago on the putting green (A.Testa’s putter, Raz), and it felt like I was holding someone else’s dick. Very uncomfortable indeed. Good luck to anyone who can use them well, I say. It will never affect me.

Not everybody’s cup of tea, yarnie. One of the pennant players from my old club bought one about 10 years ago. He ordered it from my computer because he was useless. When it arrived we put it through its paces. I have to say that i was very confident of holing anything inside 10 ft. I almost bought one but decided against it at the last minute because I wasn’t confident on long putts and we were just starting pennants. It did make a difference to useless’s putting, he putted great.

I am just wondering if the shaft was a stiff or extra stiff

Yarnie prefers a stiff heavy shaft. If that’s a help. He’s a dead ringer for Michael Thompson in looks and swing too. He’s a diamond waiting to be polished.
