i am interested to determine if it contravene the rule of Golf for a gent to play with ladies golf ball. Played yesterday and golfing partner played with pink ladies ball through the round. Didnt faze me what ball he played with, but officially, is this acceptable under the rules of golf?

Only if he wears a skirt as well

A golf ball is a golf ball, as long as it meets the R&A/USGA standards who gives a flying fook what colour it is, as far as I’m aware the only diff is the compression, so if your mate has a slower swing speed a Lady ball might suit him better anyway

we have a single figure golfer in our club who used to use a ladies ball…...one of those opaque things…..haven’t played with him recently so I can’t say if he still does. Used to belt it a mile.
Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem. |

Not a problem using a ball designed for women. The Precept Laddie is a very good example in this case.

I’d suggest that you don’t use a pink one though. Some nasty people might call you a “poofter”.

We need to move away from “gender specific” and more toward “skill specific” in all areas of the game. This goes for which tee box to play from, style of membership you join (allowed to join), and equipment used. If more golfers played from correct tee box and used the equipment suited to their particular skill level, we may see more people enjoying this game.

Good call….. we have a guy that plays of 29 and regularly goes around in in 140 odd when we play stroke of the backs… I was in a group behind him last week and on the back 9 every shot i had to wait 3-4mins before i could hit…. lost all rythum and tempo. Was playing to h/cap on the front and played about 10 shots above it on the back. He should have hit from the “front tee” aka Ladies.

We will see the change to Gender Neutral tees in the coming years. Its a mindset and causes examples like you mention all the time. Would a male ever feel normal playing from the ladies tees- but if they were called say FORWARD tees then no problem. With slope system all tees can be rated for all players. So ladies can play from back tees and vs versus for males.

I disagree with the different tees for different hcp. Isn’t the hcp the system that makes it a even playing field?

I’m about to join a club and I was wondering if I have to play off the back tees or do I play of the whites?
|
|
We already have a system in place to even out the field and get people enjoying the game…As mentioned, this is the golf handicap. I like the forward thinking but in reality it’s not a viable solution…. Also not sure what having different membership options based off skill level would achieve? …. 1000th post to cap off a Friday afternoon. Now what.

Depends on what coloured tee markers your impending new club wishes to use. The back plates or ‘Tiger Tees’ as some like to call them are usually black, but could be blue. Most clubs will use these for the club Champs and Medal rounds. Then they may have Blue or white for normal comp rounds. Some will have white as the social tee and others will have yellow. Then of course you have red for the ladies. Played Shell Cove recently and they have Black, Crimson, Mocha, Orange and Red. As a member you will play off whatever is ordained as the comp tee for the day of play. Could be black, blue or white. Could be green, purple or gold. Who knows…
The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish….. Now a two time winner of the treasured WBT. |

Of course it is viable. The club just needs to play its competitions in grades. We do it at my home club. Monthly Medals and a couple of other comps each month are black tees for A Grade. Blue Tees for C Grade and B Grade varying.

Played in three mixed comps over the last three Saturdays, and on each occasion played off the same tees as the guys. We have red/blue painted markers set into the ground for championship rounds and green/white painted markers set into the ground for non-championship rounds. The guys conditions of play for the day may specify the “Blue” course and ladies the “red” course, or for the guys the “white” course and the ladies the “green” course. But in each case the guys and ladies hit off the same tees. Haven’t hit off different tees to the guys in years.
Callaway Diablo Edge kit – magic. 11deg driver, 3 & 5 woods, 3,4,5 hybrids, 4 through SW irons plus GW, all with senior flex graphite shafts, and Odyssey White Ice #9 putter. 5 wood, & 4 and 5 irons tend to get left behind. |

Sorry clarification I didnt mean memberships for each skill level. I meant female/male not having different categories. A member is a member. RE: tees- skill level does play into it for which tee to play and the Grades playing different tees is correct. If your a good player the tee box really doesn’t matter, unless its playing really short and there is a distinct advantage. Higher hdc players off the Tips is not always a good idea, bad for pace of play etc. If the course is really tough ie has 200+mtr carries to fairway, and high rough the hdc players are at a major disadvantage. Especially if they normally play at “easier” less penal layouts. Play the correct equipment and tees based on your handicap level.

Haha, i’m getting there Barnesy…. slowly but surely.

Sorry clarification I didnt mean memberships for each skill level. I meant female/male not having different categories. I think this would have an adverse effect though. There are about 60ish lady members at my club (i think – just made that number up but it’s in that kind of area)... I can’t imagine upping their membership fees a few hundred dollars is going to inspire more ladies in to the club.

....started out as a thread about golf balls

Am I the only one who thinks this is one of the stupidest questions ever asked on this forum? If it were against the rules for a bloke to play with a ball marketed towards ladies then it should be against the rules for a C grade golfer to use a Pro V.

oh the innocence…

I have had people call me similar for using/wearing pink items. Usually only backwards redneck bigot pieces of shit I’d love to stomp into the ground.

Just say to them that their mum/wife prefers it when you wear pink.

Sorry clarification I didnt mean memberships for each skill level. I meant female/male not having different categories. Double edge sword I agree- but we need as an industry to get away from the stigma of being elitist and exclusive. Its starting to happen already at many clubs as if someone really wanted to push the issue it probably is illegal to make distinction of gender discrimination. RE: If question is stupid or not is irrelevant to this forum. People come here to ask a question and advice. I hear the same questions on here as new people join the site. Who cares if it was asked prior, its being asked now and we accommodate an answer however we can.
