shot 7 under par course record in first round of Vic Open but gets DQ’‘d Now I know its the players responsibility to sign his card but to shoot 7 under and a course record he might not be 100% concentrating what role do the scorer’s have that take his card in the scoring tent or clubhouse, as he hands it to them surely they can say hey please sign etc, he shot the score no one disputes that there must be a grace period or at least a penalty of a few shots but to be DQ’s in my eyes is crazy.

Rules are rules. There is no grey area. He has nobody else to blame but himself. Stiff shit.

He’ll only make the mistake once.

Should have signed it before he teed off on the first…..
It’s only the Internet guys. This is NOT real life…. |

All he needed to do was ask the scorer in the scorers hut, “is this right?” when he handed it to them, then wait around until they give it the all clear.

Hmmm… Not sure if serious.

What a dickhead!

It’s pretty simple check your scores and sign your card.

He’s probably not in a professional sense however what he is suggesting is done by a reasonable percentage of club golfers. I am unsure with club computerised scoring systems why you even need to hand a card in these days. The rule could be amended.

It wouldn’t happen in any other State Open – not signing a score card after shooting a 7-under. The Officials are to help the players and ensure this doesn’t happen.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

This is one of the most basic rules of golf. You “must”” check your score & sign the card before handing it in. The scorers have no duty to inform a player that he has forgotten to sign his card & if they are checking the card to ensure accuracy it could well be that he had left the hut before the mistake was noticed. He has no one to blame but himself.

How many other sports require the athlete to finish the athletic contest and then become an accountant for a few minutes at a professional level? Can’t think of any!
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |
|
Golf, ridiculous rules. But they are the rules. Should have known better. Should have been told. Should have shot 9 under. Should have signed it before he teed off the first.
What is this golf game you talk of? |

I can’t even think of one.
Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head |

I’m sure Mark Roe and Jesper Parnevik would love it if the officials were there to help, one could have been the Open champ in 2003. To blame it on the officials is garbage, it is up too him, and rules is rules. How long has he been playing golf? I know if i shot 7under i would check then double check to make sure the card is correct. In fact i do this every week before i hand my card in.

don’t bet on it

Ok , but some of the rules of golf are archaic , like having to play out of a divot , and should be modernised . Whatever it takes to bring it in line with other sports.
Give me a man with big hands big feet and no brains and I will make a golfer out of him . Quote, Walter Hagen. |

It never ceases to amaze how people bitch and moan about the rules in a game which they have freely chosen to play Personally I don’t like to have a bad lie, pay tax, see my footy team lose along with suffering a whole shitload of inconveniences in my life. I would rather it weren’t so but I just have to grin and bear it. seriously guys just suck it up

Whose signature was missing from the card, did they say?

What is this golf game you talk of? |

Sorry, but i just don’t understand your statement? What do you mean bring it in line with other sports? and which sports are you talking about? and how hasn’t golf bean modernised? I would say out of any sport in the world, golf has by far gone ahead leaps and bounds in terms of the original equipment we use and the grounds in which we play.

school boy error. I assume the guy has been playing golf for more than a week if he shots a 63- hence he would have signed a few scorecards in his time. Idiot. Too dumb to be Vic Open champ. He was a NZ. Says it all. I bet he lives on the Gold Coast :)
