Golf handicap update

I joined RACV golf to get a golf links handicap. Submitted my 3 cards and got 24 hc. I continue to play throughout the year but only in my social group which maintains their own handicaping spreadsheets.

1) Would they revoke my golf links hc card if I did not play any official competitions throughout the year? ie is there a minimum number of cards i need to provide in a year?
I heard some say yes and others say no longer needed and your golf links should still be valid.

2) Under my Social Group handicap, I have gone down to 18hc. But my golf links is still 24.
Assuming I join a competition, I would be rated 24. Potentially branded as a buglar. What do u do in this case.

to keep your handicap one would assume you need to hand in the reqd 3 cards per year

if you want your racv cap to drop your social group fat controller needs to submit the cards or it (h/cap) will never change

burglers get whipped on the dick with a wet shoe lace

any one else heading home to get married??

I’m pretty sure I read recently that handicaps no longer expire and there is no min rounds required per year.

Interesting
Why have one then if you don’t play (comps)?
Seems a waste of time.

I would assume its nice to have one if you want to play on a Saturday or Sunday somewhere. Most places insist you play in their comp, its too busy for social rounds on good courses, and its best if you have a handicap for that. Some courses may require a handicap to play in the comp.

Yep – but why have a handicap if you are playing to lesser scores on a regular basis and the handicap you have is highly inflated….....because you don’t put cards in for comp rounds?

Unless of course you are preparing for the Holden Scramble

The handicap is mainly so I can get in to some of the better courses.
Quite a few of the courses on the RACV list will ask you for a handicap card before we can book at their course. Also when I go overseas, a few courses will ask if you have a valid handicap.

I tried asking one of the clubs to enter my scores to golf links but their reply was that our social group was playing social and cannot be entered into golf links.

Ruud, your handicap doesn’t expire unless your valid club membership expires.
Your social club should consider becoming a real golf club. They’ll need at least 20 members. The club can join the VGL – see their web page vicgolfleague.com.au
You’re paying a lot of money to RACV (or you will on renewal) just to have a plastic card.

How often does your social club play? Thought about joining a ‘normal’ club and playing more often?

We have about 50 members and play each week. Mainly about 4-5 groups are booked at different public courses each week.
I also got the racv membership as it has golf insurance. And i can try some private courses ad well.

I only play about 2-3 times a month and mainly on Sat’s. So haven’t considered joining a club as a 7 day membership would be pretty costly and I don’t have the time to make it worth while.

trulips lad

2-3 times a month you play and ya havent got the time

lets look at it like this ya just forked out 200 bucks on racv membership

you still have to pay green feess

lets say ya 3 rounds a month cost you $50 on the racv membership

150*12=1800 per year

add 200 bucks to that for racv membership

then $2000 dollars a year just in green fee’s and racv membership

you could join Baccus marsh golf club twice and with change and have a golf link handicap

or you could join beacon hills country club once and have change leftover

just food for thought and not having ago

As i think you could have spent 110 bucks a year to bushrangers golf to maintain your handicap and to play anytime you want and you still can play any club open comp that allows green fee players

My club membership is $80 p.a. (golflink, insurance, etc). Green fees $700 p.a. unlimited play.

As far as I know social rounds can only be entered into golflink if you better your handicap.
