Today i played in a comp at a public track, tee off time 12:30.. Actaully teed off at 1:05, bout at least 5 groups waiting to take off , anyway i was playing in a 4 ball in a par comp. , so we tee off on the 10th all of us hitting pretty well and moving along nicely .. Group behind was a 2 ball in cart but never seemed to catch us right u t the point of being right up our arses so we just kept going .. Then we get to the 12th hole , almost to the green on a long par 4 with the 2 ball only just walking on to the same tee and a marshall / proshop employee appears and drives up fom nowhere and tell as blatatly . We need to get a move on as we are holding up the next 3 groups behind us , gave us all a look an just drove off before we even had chance to say anything .. We were all like WTF !.. All got pretty pissed off about it , i personally lost my cool a bit and my rythme went out the window .. But i thought stuff him We are just gonna play at our own pace anyway .. I then started to look behind and as we turned to another hole we could see a couple of hole back and noted that behind us were 3 groups .. All 2 ball .. I then became friggin furious and my game really went to shite ! .. We completed the back 9 in 1: 56 minutes playing at our normal pace .. Proceeded to pro shop to hand in cards ( ended up plus 6) .. Seen the guy so i aked him why he told us to hurry up .. His reply was .. You were almost 2 holes behind and holding up play behind . . I told him yes the group in front was a 3 ball and was pulling away from us and at no time did the group behind catch us up close enough to call them through and we had completed the back in less than 2 hours ,

It’s Murphy’s law he popped up when he did…It’s never when your right up the clacker of the group in front. Should’ve asked him “Where the F*”^ where you on the front 9 dipshit?”

Maylands…....Just a guess!
|
|
:) .. Not a bad effort !
|

Well today i spoke to the comp organizer that picked up the result cards, and apparently the chappie had a think about it and said he felt bad about it ! .. See what he says to me at the next comp, the thing is he spoilt the rest of my back nine and a good score for my order of merit .. I can live with that now and im over that bit , but what really peefed me was the way he spoke to me initially.. I play a lot of golf there .. And i spend a shit load on equipment both in pro shop and at bar etc.. I dont expect any special treatment but i dont expect to be spoken to the way i did either on the course or in he pro shop after i asked for some reasoning. I think marshalling leaves a lot to be desired at many clubs, even at my club on comp days there seems to be some favorites that appear to be exempt from rules and get away with all sorts of shit,

Played Maylands once…just to have a hit with my son-in-law…...it seemed to me that particular day they just wanted to load up the course as much as possible…and then let a few more on. 3+ hours for 9 and we walked off…..bloody ridiculous
Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem. |

did you ask the idiot marshall why the multiple 2 ball groups weren’t put together to make a four ball? Sounds like a poorly managed club to me. How can you get tee times half an hour behind ….

Do you really think the marshall cares if they have money or not? I dare say he’s getting paid $17 an hour regardless. It’s not as though he cares or gets anything extra if the golfer is buying drinks/equipment. Perhaps I can offer some insight into the other side of this debate. I’ve worked across various golf course pro shops in the last 5 years, as a result I’ve done a lot of marshalling. When marshalling I always take the tee sheet with me so I can see if any groups are out of place or as in your case pulled out. I’ll give everyone a chance to make up ground and generally only speak to groups if they are a long way behind. Sometimes a presence on the golf course is enough. Although, there is something about letting a golfer know that they’re slow that gets under their skin. Very few take it with any grace and need to blame someone else. I’ve even seen playing partners get upset with marshalls when our group has been told to hurry up. Even though we’ve been looking for balls for the last 4 holes. When I politely tell a group they’re out of place I’m invariably always met with the same standard responses. ‘It’s hard to keep up when we’re not very good golfers’.. ‘the group behind isn’t waiting’... ‘the group infront is too fast’. Whilst in your case the marshall may have made a mistake and been out of line, perhaps it’s not so hard to see how a marshall ends up with a bit of an F you attitude.

Awesome post mate, well written and obviously very intelligent. I am sure it would take a special kind of person to be the best type of marshall that can pander to the precious soft cocks out there that can’t accept they are slow without getting yelled at

I totally agree with what Golfpunk64 said but it also depends on the knowledge etc. of the marshall. A few weeks ago the marshall at my course came up to my group and told us that we were out of place. Fair call except that it was just as we were approaching the second last green. I politely asked him what he expected us to do in the space of one hole and he just shrugged and drove off in his cart.
