OOMBET 2013 Summary – #1 Sanctuary Lakes

First of all, thanks to all the punters who got into this. Was great fun, and although numbers were down on participants from last year, there was still some fun to be had. I think the introduction of exotic bets proved a happy talking point and I hope more people get into the spirit for Heidelberg.

Overall Stats

1) 35 different punters
2) $17,320 waged over 131 separate bets
3) $24,615 collected in 19 winning bets
4) Most prolific better: Francie with 13 bets
5) 5 punters wagered their entire $1000 on one player
6) 7 bets for Overall 2013 OOM Winner
7) 12 different Exotic bets

So, how did the Punters go at SL?

Winners Circle

It’s quite easy to see that OOMBET got cleaned up big time by two high rollers… and they weren’t even playing the day! So good on our foreign gamblers, hopefully this encourages our mates north of the border (Yarn, Waffle, Barenski & Co) to invest in some OOM punting…

1) Codboy was the “Big Fish of the day, laying a cool $1000 on Peaksy on the nose for overall win for an impressive $9000 collect.
2) Hawkers got on his Sunshine GC mate in Ghetto for a lazy $1000 on the nose for C Grade Win, which netted him $6000 also.
3) Ghetto himself decided to roll a Grade Win and LD multi on himself, at odds of $25.80, plonked $100 on and collected $2,580.
4) RobNewy backed himself in for overall Top 3 at $4 with a lazy $200 and rolled in a nice $800 collect.
5) A great punt was from our newbies in Buzz1927 and Deege, sight unseen that backed winners in the field (Peaksy and RobNewy respectively) for some nice collects.

But in a lesson of always keeping an eye on the OOMBET markets, even up to last minute, the most successful bets was the exotic requested by HotFuzz for Smergen to hit “more than 4 greens in reg”. OOMBET threw out very juicy odds at $7. Lefty Tiges, Hackpro, Goldy, HotFuzz and BMan all got on it and collected nicely. However given that Smergen had no GIRs in the first 7 holes, things were looking shaky. But a strong finish saw him put his approach on the last hole to 6ft and help the guys out.
So keep an eye out on the market, and the exotics that might be out there. The OOMBET markets for exotics at Heidelberg will open almost immediately and OOMBET is planning on being considerably generous next time round.

So close but no dice…

I thought I’d put this in there a little side note that Ghetto nearly pulled off his super LD multi where he backed DJCraig, Bomberclarke and himself for the grade LDs at a healthy $42.57 odds. Unfortunately Bomberclarke hadn’t been visiting Dr Dank, and was the only leg that failed and spoiled a nice $4000+ collect.

OOMBET’s favourite punt

This is an easy one… Hackpro putting himself in the cross hairs with the “PW Challenge to hit all Par 3”. This is what OOMBET is all about, having a bit of fun, a laugh and having a crack. His 145m PW onto the 11th hole (his first par 3) was brilliant, but alas the 17th at 155m and the hardest hurdle proved too big a challenge.
OOMBET wants to encourage this kind of thing and will offer big odds next time around for people who “get in the spirit”.

Overall 2013 OOM Punting

A few punters have invested in the “long haul” for the Overall 2013 winner and it’s Goldy making the early charge, backing Peaksy at $21. I can assure you, Peaksy will not be at $21 come Heidelberg so people missed that chance. He should be around $10 I think so should be good value still.

Of the other people backed, they scored around the 30-34pts so whilst a good “safety net” score, I doubt those scores will figure in the 3 scores of the 2013 OOM Winner. People there are big odds in the Overall OOM 2013 market… this is where ground on Codboy could be made indeed…

So thank you all again for kicking off the OOMBET year. Hoepfully we can get some more people into it, new punters will start with a $800 balance and those who have already participated get a lazy $100 in the account to top up the spending. Spread the word folks… let’s see if we can get 150 bets in next time.

The great man Peaksy was the obvious choice, SL is a much easier and better manicured version of his home track (this was 5 years ago). I was banking on it being windy, this is where the great man excells.
