Golfers elbow.

Have developed a rather nasty case of this in the last month. Seem to be able to play ok but afterwards it blows right up. Googled it and all the symptoms are as described. Any type of lifting at all is really painful and being in a trade this isn’t ideal. Seems to be getting progressively worse.

I suffered from some elbow pain when I took up golf, but was never sure whether it was proper golfer’s elbow. It did tend to flare up after playing golf and hurt when I lifted things. I got one of those elbow straps from the chemist and used it whenever I felt a bit sore, and found that it did the trick. The pain went away after a couple of months of that, plus some icing and anti-inflams.

Cheers Deege. Did you have to stop playing at all?

I have had a similar issue mate. Physio did some tricky pressure point stuff that was painful as but worked well. Since then I just self treat as at flares up which tends to be after heavy practice loads rather than just normal play.

As I mentioned on the weekend mate… a bit of anti-inflam gel or deep heat seemed to work well for me. Didn’t really remove the pain (gradual R&R helped) but it allowed me to “play through the pain” and didn’t seem to affect the scores too much.

Suffering the same thing right now , being a tradie it hurts at the end of the day but after 18 holes I’m virtually crippled ,affecting my game too, had a cortisone shot 3 months ago pain went away for 3 weeks then just came back I’ve tried gels , icing , etc ,contemplating acupuncture don’t think that it will help though. I might just go see a physio and see if they can help. Just like you BeTheBall in sever pain ATM.

Only had ‘tennis elbow’ which is pain above the elbow joint (not be confused with ‘golfers elbow’ below the joint).

I didn’t have to stop playing, but I tended to have my discomfort when I wasn’t playing rather than when I was on the course. Plus it was when I just started up, so I think that it settled down once the body got used to the regular games. If I do a heap of practice at the range it sometimes feels a bit sore afterwards, but generally I can manage it myself. Out of interest, my chiro was convinced that if I saw him about it he could fix it with a quick adjustment, but I was never so fussed as to get him to do it.

Thanks Fellas, it’s a mongrel that’s for sure. Played 18 at Sunshine Tuesday before work and it felt ok but after it cooled down it was ordinary. Can’t even pick the kids up at the moment and work is a bit awkward with some things. Big lump sticking out the end of my right elbow as well which i’m told is the tendon sitting on the bone. Wanna keep playing but just going to do as i’m told by the Osteo tomorrow. He’s a mad golfer himself so hopefully he’ll be across it.

So ….... goanna penis is actually an anti inflamatory Frank? That must make Mrs Goanna, one pretty frustrated girl then ….. ... just sayin.

Had it looked at yesterday. A nerve had popped out and was sitting on the wrong side of the funny bone. Nothing funny about getting it back there let me tell you! Normal bloke was away and i copped a very tidy young female osteo who was a bloody sadist! Knew her stuff though. Sore as buggery today so no comp but hopefully will settle in a few days. Might give all the pills and potions a go until it does.

Golfers elbow is from over acceleration of the arms causing the right arm or can be the left to over extend. The speed the arms or over acceleration of the arms they are travelling puts massive force on the joints. We find similiar issues for tennis elbow. To prevent this injury to be on going you have to change the swing sequence so your arms slow down prior to impact and the club accelerates into impact. The club tkaes the force of impact and when the arms extend the force is reduce because the arms have slowed down.

Reminds me of the guy who climbed onto a bus near the golf course with both his trouser pockets bulging, and sat down next to this young thing. She kept looking across and after a while he says “Golf balls”. After quite a while her curiosity get the better of her, and she blurts out “Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?
