Off to this tomorrow. Weather is looking good, 29 deg and a bit of cloud. Rain is predicted for the weekend, however.

Tell me they’re not playing the ‘thomson’ nine????
Got nothing. |
|

Lydia Ko shot an incredible 10 under to lead the “woman who was going to take on the men”, Michelle Wie, by just 11 shots after the opening round. Ko’s round was all the more amazing because she started with a bogey and had another on the same nine as well. A total of just 21 putts – freaky!!!
Practice doesn’t make perfect – it just ingrains bad habits. |

So much that they allowed the players to lift, clean and replace their balls (aka preferred lie). Lydia Ko – OMG, what a golfer. Watched her bogey her first hole of the day (10th), then peel off 4 consecutive birdies and an eagle. She then bogeyed 16 and birdied 17 and 18 for a 30 for the 9. At this stage she still hadn’t had a par for the day. I left her group at the 1st and watched some others. She finished up with 4 more birdies and another bogey for a 10 under. Sensational and she’s not a very long hitter. Galleries were good and the course presented beautifully (apart from the wet areas mentioned above). Think I’ll go back for a bit more tomorrow.

Give us a good report Trickshot – look forward to hearing more about it.

It looked like they set the course up pretty soft. Those greens at 10.5 are money for jam. They could have tricked the course up so much tougher than that.

yeah, expect much trickier pin placements tomorrow. Drizzling rain here atm, might also have an effect tomorrow.

Not sure where the tees were but on the TV, it said the 18th was 485m. After her tee shot, they said Ko had 215m in (no way she hit a 270m drive). She then hit a hybrid to about 80m (hit it 135m or thereabouts)................great scoring for a shot hitter.

I would suggest that the 18th is being played from the mens forward tee. Once you get to about 210m from there it is quite steeply downhill for about 30m or so. The other thing to remember about distances this week is that the ball goes further in Canberra at this time of the year because the air is thinner since it is about 650m above sea level. I’d suggest that it is about a club shorter than usual.
