Double Hit Question

Yesterday I was playing the Par format in our local comp. Had to make a chip shot from hard rough near the green. Well, I buggered up the shot (yes, my chipping game needs work!). The ball went upwards instead of forward & actually bounced off the club a second time as I followed through.

I am correct in saying that counts as 2 shots? Is there any further penalty?

I wiped the hole anyway, as I needed the chip to go in to save the half for the hole. But, I’d still like to know the ruling in case it ever happens again!

I hope it counts as two strokes because this is how I penalized myself in the past.

You made a stroke and the second hit results in a penalty stroke as well.

So, depending on how you look at it, that ‘counts as two’ or a ‘penalty of one’.

Thanks for confirming that OB.
