This story just out- “Vijay Singh, long lauded for his longevity and tireless work ethic, admitted to using a banned substance in an article in this week’s Sports Illustrated. The SI story is centered on the company S.W.A.T.S. – Sports with Alternatives to Steroids – which sells such products as deer antler spray and hologram chips to help athletes maximize their performance. Linebacker Ray Lewis was among the players mentioned in the report.” Do you think it really helps?

once a cheater, always a cheater? does sound like he had no idea that it was banned though, otherwise he wouldn’t have admitted it so openly!
|
|
Agreed. He wouldn’t be the only tour player using the spay either. Reading the wiki article, there seems to be some doubt that deer antler spray contains the banned substance. The claim seems to be based on the fact that deer antlers grow and mature in such a short time. The spray is readily available to everybody which is unusual if it contained a banned hormonal substance.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

even if it’s banned by WADA, doesn’t mean you can’t buy it off the shelves, there’s plenty of things that are on the list that you might find in your medicine drawer… think we should load up?

I can imagine what the discussion will be like between Vijay and the PGA Board.

First time in golf – what do we think penalty will look like? It’s been too long since his “cheating” fiasco for them to affect the judgement one would have thought… but wouldn’t be surprised to see a retirement notice come from Vijay…

Storm in a tea cup IMO. No one else hit the ball for Vijay.

no one rode the bike for lance or ran for marion either… whether anyone else hit the ball for vijay is irrelevant. As a golfer you know how hard it would be to back up 72 holes plus practice week in week out. He’s renowned for a work ethic that has him practicing harder than anyone else, if this is supported by using something that is banned and is seen to be performance enhancing, then he’s no different to a cyclist on the gear (even though intent is a consideration – but the outcome is the same)

and I have a scoring problem :-)

Double standards compared to lance. If i remember correctly you were quite annoyed by lance’s antics. If that was you…

Most research that floats across my desk (I’m a drug and alcohol counselor) suggests about 10% of the population use illicit drugs – give or take a % point or two across different cultures drugs hold no social boundaries – lawyers use doctors use rich people use …poor people use too truckies use, young people use …yep there would be polilies using also so yeah golfers would be using
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

My general question – Was it intentional or not? Have they been using it not knowing it was banned? If not intentional then they stop, maybe get a warning for not knowing (bit should have) and move on. Happens again then raise the bar in penalty. If it is intentional then nail them to the wall.
