Club Golf Results on newspaper

just noticed from the club golf results posted in the daily paper say something like :

Club YYY: AMCR Stableford A: Winner 1 (10) 40 ; etc.
Club ZZZ: Stableford Winner 1 (20) 39 ; etc.

is there any significance with the AMCR or is this just a newspaper’s choice. thanks :)

Whenever I have rung AAP Sports Results with the results of a tournament, I have always given the CCR and in more recent times, the AMCR and then the various Grade winners, their home clubs, handicaps and scores.

The person taking down this information at the other end usually requires all of the above. Sometimes I’ve even had to supply my name and a contact phone number when they have had a spate of bogus competition results. Why anyone would do that, I have no idea!!!

Each newspaper then gets the results sent to them by AAP and they do what they want with them.

Unfortunately, it seems at least in The Age, they are not always putting the club results in the paper these days. Probably trying to save money. This would be very disappointing for some players who lose the bragging rights with their friends.

Practice doesn’t make perfect – it just ingrains bad habits.

sorry cabbageman for not making myself clear, i know the meaning of amcr :) . i guess oobs read what i meant (thanks oobs for the clarification).
anyways, what i wanted to ask was, is there another form of stableford played by clubs other than amcr/awcr comps hence the printed results on the paper (with and without amcr)

Probably just some clubs tell the paper and some don’t. Pretty meaningless to report it these days since the CCR went the way of the dodo.

Oh dear ! What is the world coming to? I’m going to agree with the big cabbage.

OOBS, bloody annoying that The Age rate this vital information as insufficiently important enough to print.

In reality OldBogey, it doesn’t take up much room and surely they can’t be going that badly.

They say that the results are available online if you’re a subscriber, but I’ve never looked them up there.

Why would the Age give preference to club golf results for space? They’re relatively trivial in the scheme of things, and there’s a lot of them. There’s been a lot of instances in the last year where they leave them off.

The Age hasn’t put them in for the last 3 weeks – tends to piss me off a lot – what happens if (unlikely I know… but..) you don’t have online access.

They may be trivial to the Age but I, and I’m sure, many others, would like to know who won what and where – I like to check on a few of my mates who play at other clubs without having to fire up the computer

The difference in golf and government is that in golf you can’t improve your lie.

The time I had a hole in one, it was included in the reported results and the f#!’n Age didn’t print them. It was in the Sun and was available online, but that’s not the point.

The Sun still manage to get the results in Sundays paper too – can’t see what’s so hard about the Age not being able (or willing) to do it

You’ll find the results at “www.theage.com.au/sport/res...”. Not as good as seeing your name in print but you could email your mates and tell them where to look for your name when you win.

With the number of golfers competing statewide I would have thought all the major newspapers would make it a priority to publish the golf results. Personally it is really good reading looking through ‘other’ club results both for friends and scoring comparisons and if you are lucky enough to win yourself well what a thrill to see your name in print.
