PGA Tour Perks

read this today online:
Players in this week’s Ford Championship at Doral have a lot to do in between whacking range balls and playing the Blue Monster.

Tuesday, 40 guys will board helicopters to Homestead-Miami Raceway to take a few 150-mph spins in Ford-sponsored NASCAR racers.

After Thursday’s first round, 50 players will head for dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab and Friday another 50 will graze at Smith and Wollensky. Their money’s no good at either pricey establishment. The tournament is picking up both tabs for a cool 15 grand.

These excursions are in addition to the usual tournament perks—courtesy cars, free food and day care for the kiddies.

Is this a PGA Tour stop or a week at Club Med?

and then this from that absolute W*NKER H.Mahan
“I don’t think we’re overly coddled. The way I think about it, if people weren’t making that much money off of us, then I would say that we didn’t need much, because we’re not really generating that much income for anybody else. But we’re generating income for charities and each city we go to, and the networks, too. You also have to think about our lifestyle—we travel 32 weeks a year, and we appreciate everything we get. It helps out immensely, especially for the guys traveling with families. To go through everything we have to go through each week, if we didn’t have the perks that we do it would be very difficult, and you might see guys play less. We’re also footing the bill in a lot of areas that other athletes don’t even think about, so compared to other sports organizations, we’re not even close to being coddled.”
so glad HE lost the Ryder cup for team USA

so anyway the perks are good but isnt the money enough? does your work provide any perks?

You’re just jealous because the voices only talk to me

Pretty simple. Appearance money is outlawed on the PGA Tour and the events are competing against each other to get the best players since none of them play every week. Offering a cool experience might be enough to sway one or two.

Good luck to them. I don’t care how much they get. It’s nothing to do with me.

good on them they deserve it….

no different to any high level corporate job

“I work with retards, Those goofy bastards are about the best thing I’ve got going.” – Pat Healy – “There’s Something About Mary”

Living out of a suitcase, even in 5 star hotels, would get old pretty quickly no matter what your job is.

Ford champ in Doral?? Hunter was at the Farmers insurance open in San Diego.

Good luck to them. I once lived in 5star hotels for work for 3 weeks straight, got pretty fn over it after the first 5-7 days. There’s only so often you can prank your mates room with 20 vegetarian pizzas.

“It’s just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.”

Jealousy’s a curse, obviously you want to be in their position but never had the ability:)

Yep don’t think Mahan said anything that isn’t accurate – besides, it’s the PGA Tour picking up the tab not breadline locals in each town they stop in

It is interesting just how much of a focus on charity the PGA Tour has, good to see in the modern era of corporate money above all else

The number 1 perk they get is the quality of the girlfriend/wife, many bat well above average.

Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game!

John Huggan on the passing of Seve – “Sadly for all who love golf as the art form it is meant to be and not the science it has become, we may never see his like again.”

Hahaha. You notice when most pros take their caps off – the head shots when they show the leaderboard on telly/websites – they are uggo, nerdy looking fellas? Still, if I could hit a ball like them I’d be rocking that look as well if that’s what it takes!

Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.

Whilst it is difficult to criticise the tour given how much they give to charity, the model does work particularly well for the people involved.
