Joining Reciprocal Club

Hi All
Has anyone ever moved memberships to a reciprocal club?
Are there any benefits? no waiting list, waived joining fee etc?

Currently looking at relocating to Melbourne for work and obviously joining a club is a fairly high priority. Reciprocal club would be Latrobe

Only early days still but any advice would be appreciated,

Is the move permanent? How many rounds a year could you play at Latrobe under the reciprocal arrangement? Are there any other Melb reciprocals?

I was thinking about a move to Syd, where our club has 3 reciprocals. One of them you can play up to 30 times and the other two up to 14 times each. So with almost 60 free rounds I would have just kept my Melb membership (at the country/interstate rate as well).

cant really answer your question
however latrobe is a pretty good track
gets boggy in winter near the river
and if the river floods,
lookout

any one else heading home to get married??

Didn’t Stink join there??

enough reason to look elsewhere methinks…

Would be for 2-3 years,
I play about once a fortnight
Will look into number of free rounds at Latrobe if it actually happens
That might be the go, and try and find some open days as well
Otherwise im sure someone can point me in the direction of a club that will suit
Thanks a lot

well i think you are forgetting some vital information here that la trobe may not be the right club for you

lets start where in melbourne are you relocating to?

how far are you wanting to travel?

if you lrelocated to say cheltenham la trobe would be a bit of a hike just to play becuase it was a reciprical club

if you was to relocate around brunswick, preston heidleberg iven hoe ,clifton hill collingwood and abbotsfood , northcote, fairfield and ivan hoe area then yes latrobe may well be the club of choice

seeing though you are only planning a 2-3 year migration to the real world as d4show said maybe worth going for interstate membership and playing latrobe as a reciprical club keeping your current club open… and playing ISG days in victoria or even playing socially with the Sga tour who run events on a fortnightly basis…

playing with the isg victorian guys play competitively and you will be handicaped on these events….

Also sga tour is a great way to get a good experience of many different course that victoria has to offer

great cheap ways to play specially if its only a migration for 2-3 years and ya not bound to any form of membership then other then ya interstate membership where you are now

cheers

Oz summed it up, Melb is a big old town, you’d want to be fairly local. In any case Melbourne is the home of golf , we are blessed with any number of options. If latrobe doesn’t cut it, there are another 400 that might, good luck

If your club has a reciprocal joining arrangement it can be great, you won’t need proposers and seconders, etc, generally you can expect to vault over the waitlist (if there is one) and maybe even get a break on or avoid the joining fee.

With waitlists having thinned out its not as bigger advantage as it once was.

Latrobe is a good quality club, its on the Yarra river and in a clay part of Melbourne so it stay wet through winter and you can expect to get flooded once in a while.

Except most reciprocal arrangements prohibit people using them when they live in that state.
