Before i started playing comp, yea plenty but hey who was counting, i had a nine on a par 5 in club champs, hit someone else’s ball….doh, i mean who else plays a bloody precept

More tigerish than a wounded TIGER

I’ve had a 13 on a par-5 while leading the club champs. Hit a 3- wood into the green and 2 putted for a 13.:-)

10 was my record on 13, also in last round of club champs, when I was in the seeded last group.

Didn’t even make the top 8 after that stirling effort.

You know, in comp, shot a 12, on Par 5 up at Emerald on Medal day. on one of the par 4’s, 11 on the 5th. 5 puts for the moose plus 2 hurt, still does…...

Had a walk up to our group 3 weeks a go at Sandy (in a stroke round)who proceeded to have 5 shots off the tee (4 provisionals) on the 17th, 2 sliced right into the tee tree and 2 hooked into the tee tree on the left didn’t find any need his fifth but then sent next into the tee tree on the right, then when he finally made the green he 3 putted did not ask him his score (wasn’t marking his card) but on rough calc he was 9 off the tee and 13 on the green so i think he ended p with a 16 now that is painful

one of our senior citizens had a 21 on a relatively tame par 4 a couple of months ago. Took it in his stride…..although a bit filthy on his mates who “found” his ball in the rough and he hit it without checking…not his, it turned out. This guy is over 80 and pretty much done it all including a 5 times winner of our major open event which attracts golfers from all over the state.

Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem.

it was a classy 10.
driver into tree hard left, lots of bounces off various other trees.. lands in the middle of a small forrest.

get a drop from a staked tree, still can’t see the fairway.

Try to chip to the tee, hit a water fountain, bounced under another tree. no shot. chip it out to a clearing. No where to go but chip to the tee box, (lovely chip too).

Fck it. smash a three wood straight up the middle, nice 6 iron around the bend. nice wedge to just short. ok chipp onto green from a dodgy lie. 2 putts. 10.

Think thats the way it went.

I can’t believe the one of the other guys actually saw where the first ball went, and then why he told me where it was. Would have been far easier to hit another from the tee.

Was good to see kiwi waste a good front nine with some equally dodgy shots on the back nine.

Oh and Goldy 11 is no problem, 4 iron off tee, 6 iron around the bend and a 9 or 8 in depending on the wind.

Good stuff Kiwi. A little story of my own.
As an older golfer and one who has been on single figure handicap up until the last couple of years, I didn’t really know much about ‘mooses’ until I attended a 72 hole stroke play North Island Police Golf Championships at Paraparaumu two years ago.
We were playing the par 3 5th. At 133 metres and number 12 stroke hole, it is not that difficult on paper, but the green is on a hillock and drops away sharply on all sides except the back.
I was busy with my own problems down to the left with a very difficult little pitch to the green. I was aware one of our four was having a few more problems than I was. He was down then up and over, then too strong with his recovery shot and rolls off the green and back down the bottom again. When he finally putted out I was marking my card and heard this loud bellow from close by and realised it was this bloke who had been having trouble. I jerked my head up and asked one of the blokes in my four what was that was all about. He said ‘he’s just had a moose’.
(That was the first time I had actually heard anyone bellow out like a moose. Previously in South Island Police Golf Championships, a ‘moose’ was signaled by sticking thumbs in your ears and waving your fingers to signify a moose’s antlers.)
From then on for the remainder of the tournament at Paraparaumu, I was aware of other ‘moose’ calls coming from different parts of the golf course. I was to learn later that this is a tradition in North Island Police Golf Championships. I must admit I found it quite hilarious hearing some other poor bugger share his golfing misfortune with anyone in hearing, and on a calm day a ‘moose’ call can travel quite some distance.
I have tried to get the ‘moose’ call introduced at my home golf club as it is a lot of fun, however, not everyone shares my sense of humour and it failed to get off the ground.
Incidentally, the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Course was designed by an ex. Australian golf champion in 1949. His name escapes me at the moment. It is a real test of golf and to be avoided on a windy day!!!

One of my playing partners on a recent medal round had a memorable 13 on a par 3. She couldn’t get out of a bunker for love or money, despite attempts to chip out sideways, backwards, every which way. I think she took 9 shots to get out of the bunker, chipped on to the green and two putted for 13.

11on a par five, lost two new balls, slagged by wife as they were a present. I was supposed to wear them out.

It was a dead straight par 5 with a very wide fairway.

I will break 90 this year.

I only thought it was 11 based on the comments that the wee man would have provided as you were walking to the tee…..and probably just before your backswing :-)

Shot more than 36 points in an OOM day….seriously.

Wouldn’t it be easier to ask the question….” Can anyone honestly say they have NOT had a moose or worse in the time they have been playing golf” ?? Although I prefer to refer to them as a ‘Bo Derek’. Doesn’t make you feel so bad.

I suppose Bo Derek is somewhat lost on the younger generation(s).
Definitely a better image than a moose.

Played at tura beach and in a stroke round and on the 5th hole par 3, I walked off with a moose…... Tee shot sliced in the dam reload and sliced again in the water , changed club and sliced again and went back to driver and and drove the green and one chip and a putt,

Billy dunk wedge.

I’ve probably had heaps but they would only emerge from the deep dark place my memory has repressed them under hypnotherapy.

A classic I rememeber was my best mate’s dad at north ryde in sydney. He would have been about 8 ahead of his handicap in C grade monthly medal standing on the 18th tee. 140m par 3 downhill, anything left is OB on the road. He plays with a slice, this time he hooks 4 in a row onto the road and holes out for a 13.

First round of club champs last year.
Parred the first.
Second hole, shank one out of bounds, shanks a second out of bounds, third I am aiming so far left this time when I shank it it goes straight-ish, approach, bunker, chip putt putt bla bla tap in 10.

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

Saw a guy do that a few years ago in the Tura Beach Open. He was in the group ahead of us and we’d caught up to them at the 5th tee. Poor bastard put 5 in the drink, then finally got one on the fairway but well short of the green. Not sure what happened after that but it was well and truly at least a moose.

I am finding it a little disheartening how many people are having to hit them in the drink or shank them out of bounds to get to a moose. I like to think that I have a certain talent for someone who is generally a pretty straight hitter of managing to tot up a really horrific score without actually incurring any penalties. It must be some kind of super power.

Spent 2 weeks in Finland looking for moose…never found one not even at Helsinki zoo (out of stock at the time)
Best I could do was a moose warning road sign.

Moose on the golf course…probably several.
One memory: on the first hole of my first ever club champs
