Why do we play well in novelty events?

Today was the second Novetly event for the summer.

This I devised and ran, since I am the Saturday group leader this year,

We played a stableford in pairs with 3 holes of better ball, 3 of American foursomes and 3 of Ambrose on each 9.

I started with 2 birdies on the 10th and 11th and then when we got to the front 9 birdied 1, 2 and 3. putting for eagle on 1 and 2. I also hit all 5 of the par 3’s and I can’t remember the last time I did that.

My oputting is much improved after sending an hour practicing last evening, perhaps I should do that more often.

We did win the day with 49 points and it was fun.

Perhaps if it’s a non-handicapped. “doesn’t matter” event, we relax a lot more than otherwise.
