Queanbeyan is a better than decent course and club. For the money membership is pretty good value. All round Canberra is pretty blessed for golf, lots of nice places to play and membership by Melbourne or Sydney standards is incredibly cheap. When I moved to Melbourne I had to get used to paying more for a lesser golf offering, to maintain the same standard golfwise I would have had to pay a sizeable joining fee plus double or more the annual subs I had been paying.

Getting excited about playing a new course now. I am a member of Stonecutters and would be happy if it half as good. And before someone else mentions it I know it will be a lot faster round! Lets face it we are generally happy if the course is decent and we go around with decent members

I can’t comment on the past super at Federal but I know the new one from being our super for a couple of years. He did an amazing job turning around our course after it was left in a very poor state by previous super. Very good golfer in his own right and knows how golf courses should be set up. You will be happy with what he presents to you. Good bloke and a bit of a character too !

G’day Strugglin,

Yep. Terrible track. Suitable to it’s membership base though.

I can see why golfers of that demographic wouldn’t like Queanbeyan. It places a premium of hitting the ball straight off the tee, and has always had really fast greens. They have one of the best greenkeepers in the area looking after the course there now, so I would assume that the condition would be mint.

yup, he plays off two, and his mate off a similarly low mark (4?).

Ok so tried Quenbeyan and can’t say I would be back in a hurry. They have a decent layout however a lot of blind tee shots which really makes this a members type course. Fairways were average at best (this may have to do with the kangaroos) and the greens were probably the most inconsistent I have played on. Some were well paced others were extremely slow. If you don’t know what the green is what it is very hard to putt. In saying that the greens were true with no bobbling around so whilst I putted a good line I was falling well short or hitting the cup with to much speed. In all it is a reasonable country track but for those that say it is one of the best courses in the area are either very biased or there is not much on offer in the area. Let’s face it I had a morning on the course so it was still fun

Agree with your sentiments there Strugglin, not a course I’d rush back to. The members there seem to love it. (but then again, we all think our own babies are the cutest)

I played there with Trickshot about 2 years ago.

Thanks Tricky, how have you been? I have not been back to Canberra since then but rest assured when I do get back there I will be hitting you up for another game. You seem to be getting around a bit these days…..
