Hi, It invariably takes me 2-3 holes to get properly warmed up and get good contact on the ball. Having said that, I’d struggle to find the time to get there early enough to hit 50 balls at the range…

I hit a small bucket (35) balls before every comp round. I really try and focus on a smooth swing and rhythm. I make the time to do this. If you can’t get there early enough to do this then I would spend all the time that you have before your round loosening up and stretching.

Have a stretch, have about 20 hits in the net to feel my swing out and get loose. over to hit a few practice chips and putt for about 5 mins. Takes about 20 mins usually and then good to go! (well that’s the theory anyway…..)

How to properly warm up (video) I try same as Danny and Nick but if cant hit balls then really focus on stretching. I focus on rhythm of swing and timing- so first few shots dont start me on the wrong mindset for the day.

i am like robnewy i dont go much on the schooners though i am more of ya pint / stein type warmer upperer usually have 2 of these as it get the blood thin and running through those veins and relaxes ya.. then when the tee time comes along just follow the preshot routine and whack down the fairway

+1 on the Schooners! I have a theory that I have X number of good shots a day and if I go to the range beforehand I just waste them all there!
Golf is not a game of perfect! |

I hit a small bucket but don’t worry too much about how well I hit them – just trying to stretch out muscles and warm up. I then do some chips and some putts. I find that if I don’t stick to my routine in warming up, I really notice the lack and take a while to get into it.

Like to go to praccy nets and get a few off middle of bat , tbh dont think makes any diff more or less to start than no practise at all

Interesting to see the varied answers. Wouldn’t you want to stretch and get mentally ready for a game, like you would for any other sport? If it helped you shave on average 1 stroke per round- wouldn’t it be worth it?? The pros do it, the pros before any sport do warm ups- so why wouldn’t you? Just an observation.

i do a warm up it might not be to much i walk to the bar (thats excercise) i turn my head left and right and up and down to see whats in the fride or on the shelf i may like to drink( thats excercise stretching the neck muscles) now i order my drink of choice now i stretch my fist by closing t around the pint glass then a gentle twist and slow walk to somewhere relaxing in front of a tv to watch the footy or cricket or golf or whatever is on the box at the club. now i do some arm ups do 2 arm ups with the left and then 2 arm ups with the right at this stagemy glass is empty and feel i have worked out quite enough so i repeat process all over again after the process again have strecth and i am now ready to move to 1st tee…. there i may have a couple of swings and twist the old hips and waiste… arrrgh fair enough not really what stretching and warming up is all about.

Ice coffee – booste of sugar and caffeine is needed Then hit 20 putts from 3 to 6 feet….They are the scoring putts Hit 15 chips with sw ..Mostly chunk n run shots. Go to range ..Hit 15 balls max. Start with 8 iron. Hit 5 or 6 drives….I try and time it so I literally walk off driving range to the first tee! Still warm If its 30 degrees plus..No warm at all just 20 putts…Need to conserve energy in the heat…
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

yep pretty much madam….. if time is very limited the best you can do is at least spend 5 mins streching and 5 mind holing 15×2 footers and working you way out a bit

Warm tea and toast, chop some fruit, take the long way in the car and run to the tee. Usually stuffed by then and takes 3 holes to calm down.
I will break 90 this year. It is NOT my age. It is NOT for 9 Once again I am the reserve moderator ( officially unofficial ) after stink if he decides to come back, which is not likely as he likes being NAUGHTY. |

Good advice above and I think mine is sorted: Warm tea and toast, chop some fruit, then take the long way in the car. Down a few schooners and an Ice Coffee (probably sounds better than it tastes). I hit a small bucket balls, have a stretch then have about 20 hits in the praccy nets. A few practice chips and putt to turn on my kinetic link and ground forces. A couple of stretches on the tee while fiddling with driver heads. Collapse from overexertion and severe stomach ache.

Question for everyone, if you played football, rugby or soccer I presumed you warmed up before a game why not for golf? I admit I did not use warm up before a round but have been for the last 6 weeks and every time I have beaten my handicap by an average of 6 shots. So you guested it I will definitely warm up before a round from now on it removes those outs in the first few holes

The build-up to my golf day is pretty solid. I’m both Captain and Greenkeeper at my track. I start early, mow greens, rake bunkers and abuse the early morning bogan golfers. I do a lot of mental prep in these hours. We have a 1pm shotgun, so I’m in the starters box entering all the players, usually only 20 – 35 in the field, but hectic enough. Before they roll in I’ll get some short putts holed and if I’ve got any junk balls that I’ve found I’ll smack them away with a club that takes my fancy. I’ll do a good 20mins of stretching and also 3/4 club swinging. Then the golfers start to roll in. I found early on in my Captaincy that I really struggled with the 1st hole (piss-weak 125mt par 3 that I eat in a social round) as I was too hyped up and my mind was still fizzing from the registration, hole allocations and getting the groups right and sending them off. In the last 6 or so weeks I’ve been working on my breathing to help relax me. I send the field off and then shut myself in the starters box for a couple of minutes, counting 4 seconds in and 6 seconds out – just as I do before most shots. For me, it works. When word got out that I was doing ‘jedi shit’ in the starters box I started to get a bit of shit put on me back in the clubhouse, most of the guys thought it was hilarious, until I called them out at presentations and invited them to a $10 a hole skins affair – off the stick. They’d back down to the challenge and then I’d tell them ‘maybe that’s why you’re playing off X handicap and I’m on singles’??? Breathing exercises to relax ones self is a key pre-game process for me, does anyone else agree??? MM
