Agreement may be hard to break, Nike need to set up their golf division in Australia like TM and Callaway, direct supplier instead of using Brosnan, remove the rivalary in retailers from the mix, Drummond will not deal with Brosnan due to competing outlets, same issue for Adams (TM Now) with Brosnan. The other issue I have heard with Nike is the Minimum stock order they insist you take to be able to stock their products is larger than the other sporting good suppliers and cause a problem for mosst of the smaller sellers in the market. Personally do not like their clubs, though there are some good blades now but there apparell is great.

So your saying no matter what sponsor he is with he is going to make $250mil in 10 years?

No….thats based on his reported deal with Nike…....”him reportedly being paid $250m….....”

How Brosnan have kept it over the years is beyond me. Some of the blokes in store wouldnt know what you’re on about if you asked for the Nike Covert driver.

Ok then, think about this… If he stayed with Titleist and they upped the ante to say $10 million a year, not that I think they would go that high but just hear me out. On top of that Oakley increases their commitment somewhere in the same range, Jumeriah makes a bigger offer to keep him, Santander, Audemar, all his sponsors up the ante to keep the ‘next big thing’ in their pockets as the contracts start to expire. Add in someone like BMW or Mercedes, Aston Martin, Gatorade, the list is endless. How much potentially do you think that would be worth to Rory Mcilroy for a single year? I would hazard a guess it would be in the vicinity of what Tiger was getting in his absolute prime… Forbes estimate that from May 07 to May 08 Tiger earned $115million dollars with only $11million from on course earnings. Have a look at this page and see for yourself. Even if Rory is getting $25 million a year from Nike, which I dont think he is, it is a fraction of what he is probably getting overall from all avenues of income…

At the end of the day it’s a bit of a meaningless number. It’s more money than he’ll ever be able to spend.

Agree with you although in the past Nike hasn’t let anyone including TW have any sleeves / cap sponsorships so its not like he’ll probably have the visible exposure he had previously on course.

Agreed, but think Gillette, Tag Heuer, Buick, AT&T, Gatorade, Accenture, General Motors, all big time sponsors but apart from Buick(on the bag) none were present at any time on the golf course for Tiger.

He’ll be flush. He’ll still have those sponsors but if you were him sitting down with Nike doing the deal, you’d surely be having a whinge about not being able to promote your other sponsors on course by way of sleeve/cap advertising so make sure what you’re offering is worthwhile….and he obviosuly did. The young man is sorted!
