why are the receptionists at public golf courses always so grumpy? Ok so you devoted your life to golf but it hasn’t worked out for you, no need to treat the paying customer like crap.
|
|
it could be numerous problems as to why they are are grumpy personel problems at home (should’nt bring them to the workplace) could be overload of work who is expectedto do more then her job description the receptionist may not be taking it out on the customer intentionally sometimes breaking the ice with a joke or something will break that barrier of grumpiness they forget about the bad day they are having

when you say receptionist, I take it you are referring to the fella in the pro shop that picks up the phone. Not sure everyone in australia is exactly the same as the person you are referring to, Ive seen some sweeping statements before , this takes the cake

Because they are sick of dealing with the golfing peasants who aren’t good enough for private clubs?
|
|
I think it is because they are sick of dealing with the arrogant wealthy golfers who think they know it all and can look down on others just because they have a few more $$$ in the bank ;-)

At a public course Parbreaker? I don’t think so.

You need to understand that people that work in pro shops deal only with whingers day in day out all day long all year round.

Kiwi, a lot of people just aren’t suited to retail jobs. Working in a pro shop isn’t that difficult (I’ve done it myself). It takes some patience which a lot of younger people just don’t have unfortunately.

I have some empathy for anyone who by fate or misfortune has to deal with the general public on a daily basis.

I don’t , if that’s your job it’s your job. If you dont like cutting wood dont be a carpenter. if you dont like dealing with people do something else. if im missing something here someone help me out…

this post by the origional poster had nothing to do with the pro shop but many of you have responded its the pro shop When was a recepionist job part of the pro shop?? many of these recepionist do’nt know a tee from a golf ball that work @ golf clubs
|

sorry just being honest

I’m not too sure there are many who devote their life to golf and become a receptionist at a golf club when it doesn’t work out.

The golf industry in this region of the world hasn’t moved to a hospitality industry mindset. This goes for administration and pro shop. Service needs to be intrinsic to the people in these areas not part of a job description!

Its a vicious circle – be rude to people and they’ll be rude back! Some golf pros can be worse than other service industries. Just cos they can hit a golf ball better than most gives them no higher authority anywhere – including at a golf club!

Oz, how many municipal GC employ a receptionist as such. We re presuming the op referred to whoever picked up the phone as the receptionist , reality is, its generally the pro shop

Caboolture golf club has a range of ages as receptionists, some of them are volunteers, never had a problem with any of them. Maybe it’s because of my sunny personality.
I will break 90 this year. It is NOT my age. It is NOT for 9 holes. I demand to be reinstated as reserve moderator(unofficial) |
