Sure each to their own I had been fitting them for over 10 years, majority of my clients still use them and are very happy with them. Tell me how can any one be unhappy with them if they are fitted properly? Like any brand people are fitted for, they buy them because they are happy with the performance of the clubs when they were fitted. Seems very odd to me people are bringing them back. he is prolly repairing other fitters cock ups zen like Jon does all the time a little bit of this, but primarily the drivers just keep splitting!!
Did you send them back to HG ? You have a manufacturer’s warranty they all get replaced for free. I remember 12 months ago or less there was a recall because of 1 shipment where some faulty heads that shouldn’t have been shipped out, got shipped out by mistake. These fault heads had a weak crown and shouldn’t have been shipped out. It was no fault of HG Australia’s. According to HG after the recall only a few were returned where they were split in the crown. Apart from this one shipment they haven’t had issues of split heads. I know a couple long drivers in Australia and the US who train with HG driver because the crown, heel don’t split on them. HG weld along the crown, heel and around the entire face. I’ll see if I can get a photo of the driver head been cut open.
Regard to fitter cock ups, what I don’t understand is why people don’t take them back to the fitter, you have a 100 day free alterations warranty, you get a free shaft flex change if required. Free alterations to lie angle and free back up fit. People are suppose to go back for a back fitting to ensure they are happy with the clubs and the fitting was right. Recheck their lie angles and quality of strike. This is free of charge.
The 100 day warranty is there also for people who are making swing changes, at the time they may need as an example a regular shaft or a high lofted driver as they improve they need firmer shaft and less lofted driver. These can be altered free of charge.
Seems odd to me how I hear these stories of fitters cock ups, although what I have generally found is the person who goes else where for a second opinion never went back for alterations to the original fitter or they were fitted for the future. They make swing changes and need alteration to lie and shaft. Their swings changes so their lie angles shaft flex etc changed. They go else where instead of returning to the fitter, Sadly the fitter goes down in flames and gets accused of cocking up the fit. At the time the fit was right although because their swing improved things changed. Although if some one came to me with their clubs being unhappy, I would make a courtesy call to the fitter and find out how they fitted the person, generally what I found was they were fitted for the future or the person went had some lesson so the clubs were no longer a perfect fit for them.

Zen, is the free alterations(100 days) and free backup fit being communicated to the customer clearly and concisely enough? Purely from reading various threads on isg over the years, (so take it with a grain of salt) it seems a high number of customers decide to go for a second opinion elsewhere, when a free follow up is part of the package. I can understand the need to go to a second opinion if they were still not happy with the follow up, but to not even bother with it…well something is nqr for mine . If that was my business I’d be drilling down to find out why customers prefer to go elsewhere for a paid 2nd opinion rather than go back for the follow up check to the same bloke who fitted you in the first place.

Lefty, A valid point maybe some people may have not been made aware of the back up service. Over the years HG got a bad name for fitting to long originally due to lack of education. Changing lie angles, lengthening shafts etc was left field to the industry back in the day and HG got attacked over it. The branding of fitting too long stuck with them. Although not much these days. OEM’s could not build clubs longer then 37and 1/2 inches (standard length), they could not swing weight them with out adding weight , effect ingthe COG of the clubs. Our making the clubs too heavy as well. The marketing ploy was fitting too long was unfordible etc. By making clubs 2 inches over 38 and 1/2 was a big no no according to them and all types of cock and bull stories were created.
Some poor bloke playing golf with his new HG’s 38 and 1/2 and average joes been brained washed by OEM would comment on the guy clubs. Or a non HG pro sees there clubs that’s a no no. So what do you think happens? they get a second opinion, same again thats a no no to fit 38 and 1/2 two incehsfor same reason the lack of education out there.
Today the OEM modern standard is 38 and 1/2 Two inches over the old standard. The other funny wise tale is a guy 6ft 6 being 4 inches over standard 39 1/2 inches. You hear people say today HG fit you 4 inches over. I can I ask a question how many inches over standard are you? Oh i’m an inch over. Oh right same length as HG, what do you mean 4 inches is going off the old standard of 37 and a half. Again same old story. Most of the stories you generally hear are the days of old, it’s rare to hear these stories as much today now the OEM’s are fitting much longer.
It’s like anything for every 10 good things you do, I bad thing you do cancels them out as they say. There is always going to be a minority of unsatified people for many reasons. If you weight it up just say there is a population 5 % unhappy, in Melbourne alone there is tons of fitters, a year there is about 1000 sets sold, there is a population of 50 people who aren’t happy. incomparison to 950. If your a fitter who does say a 100 fits a year your are going to have 5 people unsatisfied. You can’t keep every one happy. Some guys been fitting for 30 years. That’s 150 unhappy people each. Although we never hear about of 3000 people for each fitter. Although bare in mind the reason in my pervous post what generally happens and third part influences from others as I stated above are why these people are unhappy.
The percentage is considerable lower in comparions to people who are unhappy with their fits and their builds going to a golf store. As far as the quality of the manufacturing they are highly regarded world wide.
As companies grow you are going to hear stories of unhappy customers thats the nature of the beast there is always going to be a minority of unhappy customers. Although I also know there is thousands of very happy customers world wide.

HG’s are overpriced and overrated by there fitters. They bamboozle the average golfer by telling them their clubs and fitting system is the be all and end all. I fell in the the HG trap when I was a teenager by my coach at the time. Don’t ever fall for the HG spin. At the end of the day its all marketing and a way to sell a product were the margin is much higher.

Maxon, You welcome to you opinion although that’s your opinion not the truth either. Your coach didn’t fit you into HG because he thought they would be the most benefit for you? He just did it to make a large margin out of a junior. Be good to hear his thoughts on this?
Your were bagging on about what EP wrote in his book about false incidents. Now your doing the exact same, making false accusations and knocking PGA members, falsely accusing them of only fitting HG’s due to margins. Although the truth is majority of them fit other brands to offer their clients. Majority of them never sell HG at recommended retail and try to match the same prices as other brands today.
Most of them also sell HG because it’s the best fitting system on the market. Secondly they can’t order OEM’s to be built to the spec’s required for their clients. HG can provide a service to have the clubs built to the specs they want for their clients is why they use HG. There is honest professionals out there who do care and legitimately want the best for their clients.
You don’t like HG good for you although there’s no need to urinate on PGA members lives and discredit them making false and untrue statements just because you don’t like a certain bran..

I don’t know what I said in another thread has to do with this thread.
Your opinion is that HG is the best fitting system on the market.
And I don’t know anything these days that is sold for recommended retail. Everything is discounted to price match. Not just in the golf industry.
Nearly all clubs can be fitted to everyone’s needs. So don’t say that HG are the only clubs that an be ordered for some peoples specs. THAT’S BS!
So what GP do u make on HG compared to the other major brands?
Oldbogey damn should have listened to u!

Maxon, My suggestion is to ask around, OEM’s have limitations on lie angles, lengths, they have limited ranges of shaft flex for models. Head designs is another factor, Dirver lots as well. So no not all clubs can be fitted to every ones needs, to say they can now that is BS.
|
|
|
|
|
I have worked in nearly every area of the industry and say its BS coz it is.
Maybe that’s why some HG fitting measurements are so weird limiting your customers options, just saying!
Show me an example of a major brand that can not meet someone’s measurements.

Maxon, I’m not going to go around naming companies publicly, may be do some further research and ask around, it’s common knowledge in the industry OEM’s are limited. I can see you have never really took the time out to understand HG’s manufacturing or how they build and fit clubs, I’m not sure how you can really comment on them. No matter what your opinnion is still doesn’t give you the right to bag other PGA members just becuase you don’t like a certain brand. If you are a PGA member you should know better.

Nah, you only need to go and have a fitting with them to understand why the fitting system is so good. But there is a stigma it seems.
i.e. Hmm, that’s no good, let’s try 2 degree upright, 4 degree upright, lets try 4 upright in a stiffer shaft. etc etc.
It’s quite unreal really.
