What has happened to the golf cart gps. A few years ago Brookwater Sanctuary Cove and Links Hope Island all had gps cart which was a great idea and worth spending an extra $20 buck a round for now it seems they are all gone i cant see the point in getting rid of them once you have them surely there wouldnt be much if any upkeep cost and surely it would draw in more players the only ones losing out would be the hand held gps makers but this wouldnt be much because most guys would still buy one for the courses that dont have gps

No idea really, but one reason might be courses wnating to keep carts on the cart path. If carts have GPS built-in then players will drive all over the course. Other than that I’m sot sure?

I know that in the case of Brookwater and Hope Island the old systems were due (overdue) for replacement. I played Hope Island before the old systems were removed and they were in a pretty sad state.

I haven’t seen them to confirm, but could have sworn I saw an article that said Hope Island installed a new system in their carts last year (2012). Definitely gone from Brookwater carts though.

Against the rules of golf. Real time weather updates (what happened to ‘beautiful one day, perfect the next’?), and advice on what club to use.

How can the old ones be ‘overdue for replacement’? Either they’re working or they’re broken. It’s not like the bearings wear out.

The ones we had in our carts were Ok at the start but with age their accuracy diminished. I know that sounds strange but we tested it out one day driving 2 carts down 18 side by side. at 150 marker they were reasonably close.( within 5 metres ) I drove very slowly to 100 meter marker. Other driver was quicker. My GPS did not change for 30 metres & then read 112 at the 100 m marker . Other cart read 106.
Apparently they do wear out. & the upkeep is quite expensive.
We no longer have Cart GPSs.

Amongst other things the screens were scratched and badly worn and barely readable. Some functions worked, some didn’t.

Most folks have their own personal GPS units these days anyway, so don’t have a need for the cart versions.

True dat, but from what I have read of some of the new systems they are a lot more than just a Golf GPS. Cart Tracking so they know if you are keeping up and/or staying off the no go areas. Integrated food ordering system, order your food/drink and it will be delivered to you on the course straight from the kitchen. Cart maintenance and monitoring;
