Bernie, you really do fire up when challenged. I appreciate the ‘great’ reference but it really isn’t necessary, Tackle will do. 1. As I stated, the under 40 joining criteria is not any different, just cheaper. I have never spoken about cost – just access. I guarantee no one will post on here that they are members (plus golflink) & did not know their proposer or seconder for 2 years, because that is, and always has been, the criteria and to be publicly outside that criteria is not where you want to be. No doubt it has happened, but Jon has accurately outlined the stance the club take on such applications or revelations. Hope this clarifies and you can bitch fight with someone else. I am merely a golfer from sandbelt club that knows how membership works but made the effort to call this club, based off information on their public website, spoke to the membership manager (Joan) and got their facts. Are we in agreement or do you want to keep on bitching?

Tackle – you posted I was 100% incorrect. You were wrong. There’s no bitching but you got in you high horse and essentially said I was illiterate. I know all sorts of clubs have written policy. Whether that policy is enforced 100% of the time is another matter, regardless of what any club says on the phone. As if Joan is going to declare that they ignore it at times to a voice on the phone. I am not saying by the way that they ignore it or not. But I do know it happens. Rules are bent…

Ok Bernie, you were 99% incorrect.

Bernie, you are 99 % correct. I was told that introductions can be arranged. wink2 $10 K,

It’s like the Kew cheating thread – “I heard about this guy”, “a mate of a mate” “if you are a lawyer” Yet none of these mythical figures are popping up and saying, yep, I got in like that. None of this helps the OP, who knows damn well after speaking to the membership Manager that her husband needs to befriend 2 members for 2 years. That is entirely doable and I wish her well, but to create false hope with events which are 1/10,000 is not helping her. If her husband wants to join somewhere NOW, then posters that want to help should be pointing her elsewhere of good standing. If she wants to join in 2 years, then maybe some ISGers that are members at Commonwealth will help her out by starting the process but that is all they can do for now.

Pretty easy to argue that “none of these mythical figures are popping up” when from memory the only CW member on here is BGH.

Why does any golf club thread turn into a dick measuring thread. Give it a rest. If they want to join they can ring.

People at my club are extraordinarily well-endowed in the pantal region. Especially the “ladies”.
Shot more than 36 points in an OOM day….seriously. |

Komp, Tough place to get into unless you know two people who are members quite well. You sadly will struggle to get your husband in. A loop hole is knowing two members, scan your business network or your husbands network would be the best place to start. You have the nomination fee up front you have a chance maybe.

Tackle , what you are saying aint entirely right, i know people that know people , they were interested in commonwealth. $$$$ no problem, wasnt until they yanked a certain infuential chain within the club….suddenly three of them were in. , hey presto. My point had they not been donald trump mini me s, theyd still be on the mythical waiting list

Just about every thread on here turns into a biggest dick contest. A lot of people have gone into flog mode lately.

TBH ICGAF about commonwealth and struggle to understand why anyone would crawl over broken glass to join over any number of other decent options that re a far more dignified process

And that’s perfectly ok but some people are happy to go through that process. Everyone’s different and everyone has different motivations when it comes to their golf.

If Commonwealth is anything like The Australian or Royal Sydney, then they aren’t joining just for the golf. More to do with networking within the club me thinks. Lots of doors can be opened by other members in the I’ll scratch yours if you scrath mine stakes.
The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish….. Now a two time winner of the treasured WBT. |

With all respect to the OP whether you like it or not there are protocols to joining golf clubs and I doubt you’d find anyone on a golf forum who is going to “open” up to someone they don’t know. As stated above there are probably a handful of other decent tracks that will let you join without knowing someone. Like most things club golf is about doing your time….do you actually like that environment…...build friendships and networks and then down the track doors may open to joining one of the more well known clubs. On the other side of it everyone has a story (fact or fiction) of someone getting into a club this way or that. Is it really worthwhile posting these here re CGC?

Hi All, For what it’s worth – I was seated next to a couple of commonwealth members at a function recently. The conversation turned to golf (as it often does with me…). Upon learning that I was young (30-ish) and a keen golfer, who had toyed with the idea of joining a club, but not really looked into it in any sort of detail they started the sales pitch on Commonwealth in an almost aggressive fashion – was almost surprised I wasn’t offered steak knives at any stage. I’d suggest that the discounts offered to younger members, and the relatively “Open” nature of Commonwealth’s website (compared to say that of a Vic/KH/Metro/RM) might mean that a phone call to the club from either you or your husband might go a long long way. No “exclusive” sandbelt golf club wants to openly advertise membership opportunities, but commonwealth’s processes don’t exactly seem shrouded in secrecy. Just the impression that I get. Could be totally wrong.

Im more inclined to think this thread was a crude attempt of espionage from the op, possibly an employee of commonwealth to flush out any members that would compromise the integrity of the application and proposal process in place. I should have known better than to believe a gf would spend 15k on her boyfreinds birthday pressie

I’m not sure if I should chime in with the actual truth about the joining process at Commonwealth or just keep quiet for everyone’s amusement.
