bushy…are you a Nike tragic?

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.

Not really I use plenty of their gear, but their move the last few months has intrigued me. They are a much maligned brand in golfing circles but I think they are making big waves and certainly Titleist losing 4 players directly to Nike including the #1 is a story in itself. I’m pretty excited to see how the year pans out, probably more excited than this time last year.

We’ve had out disagreements in the past Bushy but I’m with you on this one: I’m a Nike user and they’re definitely underrated. Love my VR str8 fit Driver/3w.
The big question for me is what happens to Rory’s driver.
No going to get much better that what it is now and I reckon will start out a lot worse in Dubai…but I could be wrong

I don’t think he’d be looking for “better”, just the same level performance as he had in 2012 … which was bloody awesome.

That’s the thing TTR, if its unrealistic to expect a better performance from the new clubs then it must be just about the money. But I betcha when Rory finally speaks he says its got nothing to do with the money.
By the way, does anyone know if and or where he’s been practising while in Brisbane?

My take is this, even if he’s getting payed $20mil a year there is no sensible way a golfer with as much talent and as much potential as Rory has would make a switch like this without being 100% sure he was comfortable with the equipment. Remember too that being Nike’s #1 man now, he will be getting fully customised, one of a kind pieces of equipment, especially when it comes to irons, wedges and putter (if he changes that straight away). The driver and fairways should be a simple transition, they have been testing possibly since September which is a fair while.

Nike are certainly putting their money where their mouth is and building on their stable with quality players. The equipment they make is at the elite level, just like other top OEM’s. People who dont agree are simply missing out.

Of course the money is a factor, but I think it is far from being the deciding factor. Time will tell.

I’m sure the clubs are top notch and perfectly fitted, but he’s one if the best drivers in the world right now with Titleist and TRR’s point is if it unlikely to improve your game why bother switching. It gotta be about the money

Their clubs are that “crap” it’s amazing Kyle Stanley could get the ball off the ground. ;)

Much like Tiger’s 3 swing changes? First two in particular, third one is obviously to prolong his career.

If the Covert driver is everything that the staff players and testers are saying it is, he will be leading the total driving stat. Especially once you add the new 2013 20Xi golf balls. Those things are unbelievable.

And Tigers switch to Nike was definitely about the money. Biggest endorsement deal in history at the time and still one of the biggest.
But you’re right drive, didn’t hurt his game.
Someone put a rumour on here about Tiger using Mizunos with Nike stamped on them, maybe Rory is going to do the same

Hmmm, I dont believe it, never have. There is a difference between stamping someone else’s design and having someone manufacture your own design, which is where the confusion comes from. Most forging houses that produce golf clubs do so for many manufacturers.

BUT… His new VR Pro blades will be very very close to his 712MB’s. I read a quote from Watney yesterday that his new VR Pro wedges are almost identical in design, shape and feel as his previous Vokey’s, same with his new proto Method putter.

If they are identical why change?

probably a deluded Mizzie fan boy speaking out of their arse again

I’m with you Drive, when you break it down it can’t be about performance. I guess we’ll have to wait and see

Wantima. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to catch up with him :-(

In all reality, he probably hasn’t even touched a club.

can’t believe any of you think sponsor\equipment changes for these guys are about anything except money, are you serious?

if you were making 2 million a year from your current sponsor, then someone else offers you DOUBLE that amount to wear their shirts and play their clubs, what would you do?

these guys aren’t dumb, golf careers can be fleeting, so you cash in while you can, sponsorships, appearance fees, tv commercials, put your name on anything you can cash in on, golf courses, wine, restaurants, whatever.

and when you play blades anyway, switching from blades to blades would make zero difference to these guys at the level they play at, practically every blade iron these days are the same if you hold them side by side, just wack in your shaft of choice and away you go. shaft is also the major part of driver and fairway woods etc so what’s in their bags at the end of the day have a different name but is basically all the same equipment

anyone see when ricky fowler went to cobra? they copied his titleist mb blades and put cobra on them, not a single difference in size, weight, even the brushed finish

rory will have another massive year this year, he’s got plenty in him yet regardless of what club he has in his hand
