Before Jordan basketball players wore short shorts. MJ brought the board short style into sport through basketball. The older lads will remember the days of short shorts and long walk socks in golfdom. IMO cargo shorts would be more acceptable in current dress sense with the current generation than the short shorts and golf hose of my generation. MJ has always worn baggy shorts (or short longs), in this particular case the shorts had leg pockets to keep his score card.

Dress codes are all about being presentable. Cargo pants can be presentable or otherwise. It is the latter which is unacceptable and is the reason why some codes specify Bermuda shorts with a belt. The same can be said for denim.

I always wear cargo shorts but they are not the massive bulky ones, they are comfortable and allow a good airflow on our hot and humid courses, Bermuda shorts in Australia are far too hot and can have detrimental health effects on young males by overheating the gonads and causing men to be sterile. I also wear my golf shirt outside my shorts as that is also a cooler option. I always attempt to keep myself tidy. Some of the so called dress codes mentioned here were good when playing in a god forsaken cold place like Scotland. Fashions have changed and it’s about Time some golfers modernized their attitude. I agree a tidy apearance is essential on the golf course but that also applies to all sports. Other sports have a tendancy to embrace new standards in fashion whilst still keeping up appearances, Its about time golf did the same.

Drive4Show, GF’d ! Golf is my exercise, not mechanical time wasters / knee destroyers. And I don’t have a keen interest in salads.

I’m not wealthy and refuse to spend significant amounts on golf attire that will only get torn when I scramble through the bushes looking for players’ balls. So I buy inexpensive shorts from Target, Kmart, etc. with sufficient pockets for stuff I want to put in my pockets. They certainly don’t have anything resembling ‘tailored shorts’ in my size. Nor do the golf shops and pro shops ever have anything close to my size and never within a reasonable budget.

If Michael Jordan was wearing trousers like those in the pic above, they were certainly neat & tidy. A single patch pocket on the leg does not make them ‘cargo pants’.
