Smashing someone elses gear

I took my young bloke to the local range today for his Junior Golf Clinic and half way through the lesson noticed a couple of guys I knew and had not seen in a while.

I went down to have a chat and was watching them hit some balls. They are both hackers but one of them had just bought a new Callaway RZR Driver from Drummonds.

He showed me the driver and asked me to have a hit. I went into a bay next to the one he was using which was set up for a right hander so thought would be all good. I hit my drive and on the follow through the club hit a pole that was behind me that I thought would have been out of my seing path. Probably should have had a practice swing but I rarely ever take practice swings.

Anyway I put a big dint and chip in the top of his new driver!!! F$@# Me!!!. I could see he was quietly seething as I would have been if the roles were reversed. He told me not to worry about it and that it was not my fault they put a bay with a pole within hitting range behind the matt. I felt bloody shithouse about it and as I had just purchased a new driver offered him my Taylor Made Burner which I no longer used.

He took it up with the range and they said it was supposed to be a left handers bay. He explained that the matt was set up for a right hander and there are no signs to say left handed bay. They are pretty good there and actually offered to replace the driver if it could not be fixed because of the way that bay was set up.

I felt terrible for dinting his driver and still wanted to give him my Burner but he told me not to stress as he does not play very often anyway.

Have any of you ever smashed someonelses gear be it accidently or in a fit of Golfer Rage???

Not quite the same but:

1. Bloke I know was having a bit of trouble with his putting. He had some putts with my PING putter and liked the feel, and asked if he could borrow it for a few rounds as a test drive before buying one for himself. “Sure” I say .

Gives it back to me a few weeks later saying thanks but he has decided it didn’t really suit him. Thats all good, but the bastard has had it cut down about three inches because he was a short ass. Thinks I shouldn’t be too upset because he has put a new grip on it though.

2. Mate of mine had some family over from overseas and wanted to take them out for a game of golf. He asked if I could lend his brother in law my set of clubs as he was a pretty good golfer and would like too look after him. “Sure” I say.

Two weeks later after I got the clubs back, standing on the fairway within range for two on the par 5, I reach for my trusty new Taylor Made 3 wood, stiff shaft, new cord grip> Loved that club. Anyway….its not there.

Ring my mate and ask the question. After lots of Ums and Aahs, he says he has checked with the BIL but he says there never was a 3 wood!!!! Bull#@!7 I say.

To his credit he replaced it for me, but it never felt quite the same.

I can solve all your problems…....

Stop saying “sure”!!!

;)

I never hit someone elses gear and rarely will I lend my gear to friends or family – no bloody way to family!

And secondly I hate caged in bays at driving ranges.

Thant said…

If I damaged somone elses driver I would buy them a replacement….Whip out my phone and do it right then and there.

I would have it shipped asap to his address. When it arrives ask him for the damaged one. Sell that to recoup some of the funds….

Done!

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

a real good friend off mine who doesnt play golf asked to borrow my clubs for a round of golf, had no problem telling him no
he cut up real rough he did
he didnt get it
or my clubs

if i borrow some thing and damage it
it gets replaced or repaired

any one else heading home to get married??

I was up at the range a few years back and the fella next to me said mate you have a big loopy swing , have you ever considered a stiffer shaft and then offered to have a go with his new Callaway driver. The first one came out alright , then on the second shot, the shaft snapped clean in half. By gee i couldn’t believe my eyes. To hand this poor fellas club back in 2 pieces , no amount of sorry could help. I never did see him again

Never a borrower or a lender be.

Especially with golf clubs, too expensive, too personal.

I will break 90 this year.

It is NOT my age.

When I was in my late teens on a surf camping trip. A friend had an old club with him and we decided to hit some balls out over this cliff area into a field I tee up first swing and toe ball straight into his brand new surfboard that was leaning up over to the side. Ball near went through board!

not the same story but something alot more valuable then my golf clubs

when i went fishing with a couple of mates, and mate offered to tow me boat not a problem cos i was there

there was 4 of us there this day

all was eager to get on the water and 1 of the guys had already unhinched my boat before getting it down the ramp

the driver who was backing the boat down was taking it easy and the guy who unhinched the boatyells out stop and straighten up

the next thing i hear is crunch

the lucky thing was when the guy was told tostop and straighten out he was in the water but not enough to float the boat

only a bit of the gelcoat came of the hull and lucky enough the boat was till under warrenty and was fixed at no extra cost

where was i at the time

well i was doing my business if ya know what i mean… these guys thought they would do the right thing by luanching my boat to get ready

nothing worse then hearing the sound of gelcoat peeling of on a concrete ramp…

it could have been much much worse….

I dont mind lending things but if you damage break or lose it then you must be prepared for the consequences of putting it back right

you will never get a black mark from me if the truth is told and is replaced or Fixed depending on the situation..

honesty and truth goes along way in life

Your not touching my clubs on Sunday at Karl lewis!!!! ;-)

Same rule for everything in life. You break it, you own it.

…..

Yea I didnt know what to do at the time, i wouldnt have used his club had he not interrupted and suggested i try his driver. Under those circumstances i didnt feel compelled to buy him a new one. Was just an unfortunate accident

Tubbo,

I’m shocked the range agreed to replace it!

As they did, luckily you got away with it. Your friend should definitely take them up on the offer.

Oops forgot, can’t borrow wife either.

Meh, it’s a material bat. If it breaks I’d think think they’d be sorry, I would be happy enough if they were genuinely sorry. I am not going to say no to anyone who asks me for anything, it’s all about priorities

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

I was in the same position. He asked me to have a hit. Had I asked to borrow it and the damage had been totally my fault and not a poorly set up bay at the range I would replace with out fail.

That is why said he should take it up with the range first as they had no signage to say it was lefty bay and the mat was set up for a right hander so like most people assumed it must be fine as they would check that. Not my responsibility to check that the range is set up and signed correctly.

I did offer to give him my TM Burner which was in as good if not better condition than his driver and as he is not a regular golfer he would not really care what Brand he hit. In fact I think he would have been better off with the Burner.

Your fault buy him a new one

I took my young bloke to the local range today for his Junior Golf Clinic and half way through the lesson noticed a couple of guys I knew and had not seen in a while.

....

Which range if you don’t mind me asking?
I recently got into golf only a few months back and bought a full set (Tommy Armour) but decided to upgrade the driver.

So I bought a Cobra S2 new and was pretty proud of my new club, down to Mt Gravatt Driving range and on my follow through same thing happened to me as happened to you – connected with a pole. Big dint on the top. Sooo pissed off – anyway I bought the same driver the next day $98 so now I have one for the range which I can scuff and test, and one for the course.

I launched a tee shot one day with a mate’s brand new Lady Godiva. The head flew clean off it straight down the fairway. It had only been used on about 6 holes. I said what a piece of JUNK and went back to using my own.
