first time poster here,

after reading this thread i most definately want to buy this book once it comes out in paperback, anything that gives an insight to what might look like fun from a distance is always going to be worth a read. also as a golfer, i imagine it will share some great stories!

must say though from reading through this thread, it reeks of good ol Tall poppy syndrom. the guy who wrote the book, has taken the time to come on here, answers questions, etc and some people just want to stick it to him over some stupid incidents.

maybe your life is boring, maybe you are jealous, either way after 6 pages it starts to look pity.

good luck EP! forget the haters, they will move onto someone else who has achieved things they wish they could!

Far from Tall Poppy Syndrome.

I am not looking at this from a far but as someone who knows first hand of a lot of these ‘True Stories’ and know a lot them to either leave out crucial facts or are just lies.

If pgamember is going to write a book he claims to be about his experiences and trying to help buddying golf pros then he should be expected to be questioned. I question his agenda for writing this book.

I do thank him for coming on here and answering questions, I will give him that. And if he truly regrets and is sorry for things he is done then that is fantastic. I did not get that attitude from the book though.

When I run into pgamember I will be discussing a few things in this book.

Yet another one who hasn’t bothered to read the book, but attacks those who have and express an opinion. What a joke.

Or those who have read it and because it’s in a book it must be true.

How dare anyone raise a few questions.

I am about halfway through at the moment, and have thought in a couple of places that pgamember has taken the same attitude he had in some parts of his career into the writing of the book itself. There are a couple of points where I wondered how the people being written about would think about the incident described.

But that is clearly the “warts and all” approach he is going for, and full credit to him for being willling to back it up and answer questions about the more controversial incidents. It might not be the tact that others have chosen, which is probably why most of the sporting memoirs written are a little more circumspect about more controversial issues.

So a bloke with an alias thinks that another poster with an alias should declare his hand? Virtually everyone on here has an alias but as soon as you go against the grain you are called out for not naming yourself?

Sorry EP, another vote for a non buyer/non believer here. I’d argue your number one priority is making money now that the golf career is winding back. I’m sure you’ll successfully argue that you want to help educate on the pressures of the tour pro – given by the support here, you seem to have achieved that, so I tip my hat. You’ve done well getting the book ‘out there’, but not sure I agree with people like GMac tweeting about something he can’t have read – unless he can speed read on tournament nights, in which case I’ll retract. If he’d read it on the plane to Dubai and then tweeted, far better for mine.

By your own admission you carried on like a pork chop for ~10 years – not adhering to acceptable standards of behaviour on and off the golf course. While you seem remorseful now, for myself, to buy the book is to condone that sort of behaviour, and feather your nest as a result of those deeds. To some extent, my view is you reap what you sow.

Of course many are willing to forgive far more easily – half of America has forgiven Tiger for banging the next door neighbour, and that is off the charts compared to you, so good luck with those that do support you and your book, but not sure your 99% support quote is that close to the mark. I think there’s a healthy not saying anything, and not buying. You shouldn’t let that worry you though – you only need to get a healthy that do buy.

Just my 2 cents. I’ll probably get attacked like a few others in the ‘anti’ camp, but no matter.

Your calling EP pretty hard on his book and you appear to know him, just thought it would be good manners to introduce yourself.

WI I think it is legitimate to ask me to ID myself. But at this moment in time I will not be doing this. Once I have spoken to pgamember then maybe I will, but he may prefer me not too. Cheers.

MaxxOn, now I am just genuinely interested to hear about you and your career and what insights you can bring here.
I hope that one day you are able to identify yourself, move beyond the EP thread and get out and enjoy what you may like to offer us

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

PGAmemeber,
Sounds like an interesting read, it take courgaes to put it all out there in the public in writing. Well done for doing that.
Don’t worry about the criticism of people and welcome it, the more they carry on, the more publicity it creates for you and more people will buy your book to find out what the fuss is all about.

I work with up and coming players and they live in a dream world not knowing what tour life is all about and the hard road which faces them ahead. I could see the value in your book and telling them to read it and say don’t have your head in the sand this can happen to anyone. It could be a wake up call they need to keep them on the right path and track. There is many who have had encounted many demonds through out there career and it’s all swept under the carpet.
I have lost count how many great young players losing their way drinking, partying or getting into the gear and destoryed their futures. Time they wake up to themselves they have missed the boat.

Good luck in the future.

I can’t believe that your proceeded to throw so many people under the bus… I guess you had a reason behind ports, and they agreed to let you do it..lets hope it doesn’t come back to bite you in the bum…

My plan would be to wait until it actually does come out in print and then ask my local library to buy a copy. If Dion Kipping can manage to get a book published, then Ewan should have no worries at all.

Rtl, do you think many people in the golf industry will be giving Porter a wide berth from now on, given his propensity to throw people under a bus to make a quick buck?

Does it get annoying having to log off & on repeatedly when going between the MaxxOn and KeyboardWarrior identities?

Another baseless conspiracy theory from you TTR – what are you doing on this thread when you haven’t even read the book?

I am happy for the forum administrator to confirm that MaxxOn and I have different IP addresses and are different people.

... what are you doing on this thread when you haven’t even read the book?

I think I’ll be around here a bit longer than you Mr T. You’re only here to denigrate Ewan Porter. As you were …

What are you here for TTR? General trolling?

TTR
I did join this site because of this thread ill admit that. And I’m sure if you
1. Had read the book
2. Been thrown under the bus in this book you would also have the same view I have.
Myself and many others (a handful to whom I have spoken with) have been written about in this book in a way were the truth has been distorted, crucial facts left out, lies have been told and always EWAN PORTER is the victim. I have spoken to a few people including myself who r looking into what action can be taken. Am I filthy yes absolutely. Write a book about your experiences is fine but u can’t write a book with incidents about other people without getting their consent. Also I thort the publisher would do some fact checking or maybe like many people on here the publisher took EWAN PORTERS word that this book was all true. I’m done here and have broken my rule TRR only a fool argues with a fool.

The real issue may well be it is PORTER’s version of the truth through his eyes and not the eyes of others involved.

If alcohol is involved whose version of the truth do you believe?

I would be pretty certain it would have been “legalled” prior to publication.

Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game!

Bon voyage MaxxOn. Enjoy those conversations with yourself. Hopefully the anger and the arguing will dissipate with time.
