steady on…careful what you say ‘bout us emignas…...one day we’ll rule the world…..and anyone using a putter worth more than $30 will be taken out the back and shot.

Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem.

Sorry….....some of my best friends are eNigMas…..so long as they remove their hats when they come in the house…...and don’t touch my 2balls.

My $40 Carbite mallet puts much better than my mates $300 Scotty….IMHO, Scottys are purely for the bling factor!!!

HUUUGGE Ben Hogan Fan!!!

I would say prove it, but I have no idea how (or what) to put with it.

If you are going to shoot out the big claims, at least get the spelling right champ :)

I use my driver 14 times each round (at home course) and my putter around 30, but I’m not expecting the putter to send the ball hundreds of metres.

You know that whether it goes for 300 metres or 3 feet, a shot is still a shot right?

So by that theory…you’ll spend $500 on a driver because of distance, but object to spending the same cash on a putter because you don’t mind missing putts.

Correct?

If you missed a putt by as much as you miss the target with your driver your putter would be a waste of money

I think I’m startin’ to like you Wodda….btw Alex my $25 proline is consistently better than my mates’ $495 Scotty…..and…no….I can’t prove that claim, but I will say he knows it was a waste of money.

Wooda – not into name calling mate. Best of luck with your puting.

Mugcanic – we have something in common. I think your $25 proline is a waste of money too!

On the original topic, I agree completely with the OP. For the majority of the ‘off the shelf’ putters out there, the price involved in their manufacturing process is much less than what the retail price suggests.
I can see where the cost would be in custom made putters, just not for bulk made ones.
If you priced your equipment based on how many times you hit each club per round, your putter should be worth almost twice as much as the rest of your clubs combined, let alone your balls.. I wonder how many Scotty Cameron owners use the ‘shots per round’ argument as well as an expensive driver?
As long as your putter has a flat, smooth face, and a generous enough sweet spot the fault is with you if you miss a putt.

I would rather be playing with a $30 putter and a $200 driver than with a $200 putter and a $30 driver. I’d be interested to hear one of the ‘putter is the most important club in your bag’ guys argue the opposite though.

I think driver and putter are just as important. To score well hitting fairways and as fewer putts as you can are as important as eachother. So I have the driver and putter that I feel confident with – and both being well made and designed are important.

So…if the quote “As long as your putter has a flat, smooth face, and a generous enough sweet spot the fault is with you if you miss a putt” is true, what if that flat smooth face was milled a few degrees open or closed and it sends the ball off line? Still your fault?

If you think a $30 putter is made with the same design and quality control as a Scotty, or an Odyssey, or a Ping you are kidding yourself.

yeah….he was referring to his Scotty…but I think you knew that….

Do you have a Scotty Cameron mate? If so, did you purchase it because you were worried that a putter costing 1/3 of the price might hit the ball crooked?
My current putter cost me $60 around 2 years ago. I don’t know if I just got lucky, but it seems to do the job just fine.

I actually do have a Scotty Cameron – I bought it primarily because it sits very square (and is next to impossible for it not to), feels great off the face and is well weighted for the greens that I play regularly.

If the answer was a Ping or a Mills or a TM – I would have got one of them (in fact I have an Itsy Bitsy Spider).

But to be honest…I wouldn’t look at a $60 putter (unless it was a used putter of one of the brands above). Just like I wouldn’t look at a $60 driver.

So on the price of putters, do you guys reckon a new 34” Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman Blade is a good deal at $90?

Pretty good price Peppas….....overseas?

Hey Peppas why dont you look up KRAMSKI putters.
A German with a high-tech manufacturing company caught the golf bug. He couldn’t find a putter he liked so he decided to build his own.
He spent 2 years building a prototype then another 2 perfecting it.
He flogged the first 1000 putters for 1200 euros each.
He refined the process so now they only cost 700 english pounds.
Or if you want the luxury version, 6500 pounds. (gold plated, ruby encrusted).
Apparently Faldo, Langer, Kaymer, Woosnam and Laura Davies have all used them.
From what I read he put a hellava lot research into them.
I could never buy one, but I’d love to have a putt to see what magic they possess.

“If there is any larceny in a man, golf will bring it out.”

Hey OldTom, is Kramski German for “ugly putter”?

Agree Oldman but…...........

Nah, local eBay… I’m tossing up whether or not to get it, considering trying something different to my dual force 2 blade.

Kramski might be a little pricey for me…

Would kill for the new Odyssey White Hot XG9 Putter, but cant seem to come at paying the price around $300.
You look at the thing and say where’s $300 worth of material in this. The new XG is supposed to be the beez knees in putters with many pro,s now using them.
It’s what your happy and confident with that counts. I have seen blokes putting like demons with $25 k mart putters and others putting absolute crap with top brand names.

Taxman good + Odyssey Putter x skill = $$$$ Skins

You can talk to a fade but a hook wont listen

You can get the White Ice (newer model with firmer insert) for under $200. Thats a great putter especially for the price IMO.

Do you mean the Black Series?
