I am involved in organizing the above tournament and thought of giving the members here as much info as I can about the event . I am also prepared to answer any questions that may arise. The event is held over 4 days at Belmont GC, about 20 k’s south of Newcastle in NSW. The numbers competing will be 192 and at this stage we have about 155 exempt players (do not have to qualify) and the balance will come from a qualifying event to be held at Belmont on Monday 19th Jan. Just over 100 have nominated for the qualifier. The event starts on Thursday 22nd. As of now we have 37 overseas players, 6 England, 2 Wales, 2 Scotland, 8 France, 11 New Zealand, 5 Switzerland, 1 China, 1 Malaysia, and I USA,actually an Aussie, from Lismore, going to Oklahoma Uni. 6 states each have 2 official reps. The names and numbers of players in the qualifier have to be adjusted as we found out yesterday that some are exempt, from the Vardon list. The qualifying list is at the bottom of the home page of our web site. Hopefully we will have the first round draw of the main event, less the qualifiers on the web later this week. It will be a quality field and the average handicap of the exempt players is, I would guess less than 1. Danny Lee won the event last year.

I’ll be trying to qualify again this year, missed the cut by 2 last year

Hey slickone, can you give slappa an ISG exemption?
If you build it, they will come. |
I’ll second that.
There are numerous exemption categories, I don’t recall being an ISG member as one of them. Slappa, how did you finish in the NDGA Vardon list?

I have no idea….i didnt know Newcastle had its own vardon. I only played, Lake macquarie, Toronto, Merewether, Newcastle cup, Autumn record and W.E Alexander.

Is Danny Defending this ?
If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ? |
Danny is not playing…
Danny is playing professional events as an amateur until the masters, where he will turn pro afterwards
Pure 300 metre drive down the middle |

Slappa, The NDGA does have a Vardon list and your scores would be recorded and at the end of the District Champs (last event) all the scores would be tallied for the year and divided by the rounds played to get your average. I will try to get the list. I will also find out what events make up the list, could take a few days.

I think that there are a few players trying out for the Asian tour who have nominated.

Thanks, i had some ok scores so my average might be alright.
Even if my average is good enough one would think it’s too late to gain an exemption.

I tend to agree with deva about Rhein Gibson. When I rang the Pro at Lismore to ask about him he told me that whatever I have been told about him is true. His list of results in the American Uni setup is outstanding. He has been at Oklahoma for about 3 years.
