i just heard of such a thing today when i saw on the pinboard about 3×30 min golf lessons from a AAA PGA coach for $99 seems like a good deal, i can save about 3 shots if my driving gets better! so yer, just wondering what does this ‘AAA PGA coach’ title actually mean? and how did one achieve this? thanks

heh Sanchez where are you. That sounds good value I’m in Melb (northwest) and am having trouble find a good coach.

intuitively sounds like the more As the better ?
If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ? |

Hello there, Im a member of the PGA and can explain this one. As KycGolfer said above, its the more A’s the more experienced or more qualified a pro is. For instance im only a single A member. Simply because i dont go to seminars or coaching clinics to better my overall qualification. Being a AAA simply means that your getting a pro who has done their fair share of learning. The only person who is above that is a master professional and they have to have been a pro for 25 years or more and hold AAA status for most of that time. Hope this helps…..

Thanks C27 !

From Charlie27’s review there Sanchez, at roughly a $1 a minute from someone of that experience is a bargain. Cheaper than a plumber I can tell you.
The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish..... |

...and a plumber won’t be able to get that shank sorted out :)

I believe Biomechanic does his coaching out at the Golf Science Center. From all accounts he is the man if you are South of the NSW state line.
1-L, it is all there my friend. |

In my experience AAA doesn’t mean you can coach. I have met a couple of very average AAA coaches whose names shall remain anonymous. The A, AA & AAA ratings are based on how much professional development a coach undertakes. Knowing how to swing a club and analyse players swing techniques is a good start but there are other factors. Can you develop appropriate game improvement strategies, given players various limitations. Most importantly how well can you communicate your knowledge to players.

All good thoughts JP, I suppose it would be better if you paid $33 per lesson. If not satisfied after the first episode, no need to go back and spend the extra dosh. I would assume it is an upfront payment though so the Pro doesn’t lose out either which way.

Over the years I have had a fair number of lessons. Its not a matter of what you pay its a matter of how well the two of you can work together. The best coaches I have had were Mark Gibson, Jim Kennedy, Lorien Scott and Peter Ormsby. Peter was dirt cheap at the time and all the others charged a fair but not extravagent rate (although Mark has since upped his rates) BTW Peter was the inventor of the swing-gyde tool. I had a bad and pretty expensive experience with Steve Darmody. Thats not say he isn’t talented as a coach but just that we didn’t click.

Don’t worry about ratings find a coach who makes sense to you and you can see the improvements , but bare in mind this takes time,
