guys if you’re in bris check them out, I’ll tell you my story.

I haven’t been there for at least 2 years. I went in today just to have a look and saw that they had a “mint” ex demo cleveland 460 launcher. Yes i know its an older model but i hit one a while ago and i absolutely loved it. So i said to the young guy working there that i had a near new big ben (which i only payed $130 for new) and i hated it and would he be able to do me a trade in. I expected to pay about $50 changeover. I realise that the value may be similar or whatever, but bottom line they gotta make money yeah? anyways the guy says yep straight swap no probs, plus gave a free headcover for my hybrid. great service. also told me i could have a cleveland ex demo 2 hydrid with stiff graph shaft for 49 bucks! walked out but thought bugger it so i’ll pick it up tomorrow.

Long and the short of this story is if you’re in bris check em out, great service and you won’t find more pleasant staff anywhere.

and no, i have no financial innterest in the company lol.

There's no spot on the card to write HOW you did it....

I got lied to once and haven’t gone back. One of the guys tried to tell me a driver was worth $400 when you can get it from the manufacturer for $200 or Rebel for $129 :-(

2 of my friends won’t go anywhere else for their gear though so if you’ve got a good saleperson stick with them and apart from that it looks like a good little shop.

Jamie at the golfworks use to be great but since he left I was stuffed around a couple of times and now don’t make the effort to stop to see whats on sale at that particular golfworks/drummonds golf store.

I drop in now if you are saying things have changed Gribbles..

=)

RETRACTION

SORRY GUYS

I just read the original quote again and realised it was the ASPLEY store mentioned and not the Woolloongabba store I am referring to.

Apologies for any deflamation implied!

Well GolfWorks at the Gabba is fecked now that drummond took over. I was in there today and the service and prices were absolutely terrible. It seems to me they put unreasonable prices on all their second-hand gear to turn people towards buying new stuff. Like, there was irons in absolutely terrible conditon with $400 on them.

So yes, bottom line, try other golf works stores. I went to Underwood i think it is a while ago and they were really nice. Were gonna do a straight swap on a golf bag for me.

Thanks for the post anyway…hopefull I will get a chance to drop in to aspley next time I’m out that way.

Anyone selling Titleist 735CM ???

Your right Eek. Jamie is a top bloke. Really good to deal with. After going in there since Drummond took over I don’t think I will be going back for a very long time.

Anyone selling Titleist 735CM ???

I would buy from Drummond any day. Always had great service. Sorry guys I can’t agree.

I am not bagging Drummond as a whole. Just not happy with the Gabba store. It used to be a friendly place, now it just seems cold. The sales stuff seemed to jump over anyone who looked like they had some money and didnt give a feck about anyone else. Spent half the time sitting around talking to each other instead of getting to know customers.

yeah i didn’t even realise that drummond had taken over the golf works stores. But i have got to say that when i lived in the bris cbd i went to drummond golf in the valley, and i find it very ordinary. Although i’m in a managerial position now i used to work on the tools as a sparky. i went into drummond in the valley one day in slacks ls shirt and a tie (after a job interview) and the guys were all over me like stink on poo. the next day i went back after work (in my trade clothes which were very clean) and looked around for about 25 minutes with only 2 other customers in the store and was not even asked how i was. one of the staff had served me the day before as well. That really pissed me off. I’ll never buy anything from there again.
I also agree that woolongabba has slid. i used to love the service there and the prices were spot on, but now i’ve found it to be well overpriced, and it feels like a drive thru window, just get you in and out as quick as possible

The Golfworks at aspley is independant and is still Golfworks and not a Drummond store. They are very keen to point that out last time I was there they had signs up everywhere.

Oh, maybe i should have read the signs better LOL. i thought they said yesterday that they were now owned by drummond. sorry mate, my mistake. my original opinion stands though, excellent service, reasonable prices.

  • and sarg, that avatar is great!

Maybe I should just shut up since I haven’t been in there for a while they may have changed over now it has been about 6 months they might have got an offer they couldn’t refuse :-)

Hopefully in 2010 we’ll get abit further… I couldn’t belive it poor Lucus it’ll probably haunt him forever, not that he should be sad he played well and scored him a good contract.

Thanks for the tip guys
I’m wanting to upgrade some of my clubs and a couple of pro shops here pushed me to try to sell my clubs privately when I asked a bout tranding in some clubs, they were not to interested in trading clubs even if they were brand new ,old models mind you but brand new, I would like to help out the local guys here but I may have to venture down to Brisbane for the deal.

I must admit I use to get a lot of gear from golfwork Gabba and last time I was down it was a Drummond store , and yes some of the prices where a bit high but if you bought a member ship you would get a discount ( what a wank) that would bring the prices back into line with other golf shop in Brisbane

yes mate, definately check out aspley golf works. good people and trade ins there are sweet as the juice.

Boys, all of mates used to shop and buy from Jamie at the Gabba. Now none of us buy from there. I was in there recently as it is the closet store to me and I needed some new tees. I asked about some tees they used to sell under the “golf works” brand and that I wanted more as I either lose them of give them away. All she wanted to sell me was these monster tee’s. She kept on about how if I am breaking the old style I should change, eventhough I told her breaking them was not a problem. I keep saying never again but I always find myself poping in and then leaving unhappy.

Anyone know of a good store near Stones Corner. There was a House of Golf, but it has gone bust

i know the one you mean mate, but unfortunately i don’t think there’s anything near you…

Damn….reading everyones posts about shitty service at the gabba these days makes me angry. It used to be such a great place to go. You could try the latest clubs in the nets, all the staff would talk to you about them, they used to have a HUGE range of second hand irons at good prices. It was just good. In a way it was a big business run like a small business.

Anyway, everything in the world seems to be going to shit…so the golf stores may as well follow suit. I really hope I never need to go back there.

Any other golf stores in Brisbane with a reasonable range of second-hand irons. Where you might be able to find some Srixon 506 or 735’s or something?

I have to disagree with the praise being issued to either the Gabba or especially the Aspley Golf Works stores. When my wife and I went to the Aspley store, a good 6 – 9 months ago now, looking for a first set of clubs for her, we were absolutely hustled into an over priced set of obsolete clubs that were never even fitted. All the salesman cared about was making a sale. He was very overbearing and pushy and we will never return to Aspley. They got some money out of us, but not another cent.

As for the Gabba store, the one time we went in there, prior to it being taken over by Drummond, we were completely innored for the whole time we were there. When we headed to the counter with a gift for my brother-in-law, the salesman on the phone in what had to be a personal call, talking about the night out they had the previous night, had to be prompted to serve us. From my point of view, having worked in service industries in the past, this was bloody pathetic!

I only went back to the Gabba store to get a specific brand of tees which I couldn’t find anywhere else. At this time they had been taken over by Drummond, and the service I got was very good.

I guess the moral of the story is that if you’re looking for a salesman to be in your face immediately, you know where to go. Same as if you want some space to look around a bit before talking to a salesman. The choice, as customers, is up to us. I know where I get treated well, remembered, and greeted by name every time I go there. And thats a huge reason why I keep going back!

Also, don’t forget that taking the time to get to know the staff and building a bit of a friendship with them pays dividends in the long run.

What set of clubs did you buy? I was going to get a set of PGF clubs that were superseded and reduced to $300 but where the guy lost the sale was that he said (and the ticket said) they had taken the driver out of the set and replaced it with a better $400 driver to sweeten the deal, where in fact they had put in a driver that could be bought from Rebel for $129 and PGF’s rr is $199. If they had of been honest I probably would have bought them and that would’ve been my prefered place to shop.

We walked out of there with a set of pro line clubs for my wife, just irons and hybrids, and some maxfli’s for me. We’ve both since upgraded to some properly fitted clubs.

An overbearing and pushy salesman was flogging over-priced and obselete clubs that weren’t fitted, and you bought 2 sets!!!???

Can I interest you in some custom made left handed screwdrivers????

heard that many bad reports about this store that I have lost count, everything from incorrect fitting to blantantly ripping off customers,

Dwayne – its been a while since you have posted.

Good to have you back even though I don’t agree with much of yu say.

:)

There is a saying in business, the customer is always right? In golf, as long as you please the customer and do the right thing by them..happy days. But is it the case? Too many golfers have no idea and are taken for a ride.
