ISG 2008 PGA Tour Tipping - Wachovia Championship

After a few weeks off recovering from the exertions of the Masters, the ISG Tour pulls into Charlotte NC to contest the Wachovia. There is a good roll-up of players, so everyone should be able to field a competitive squad without much drama. Last year’s winner was Tiger – but he’s at home being tended to by Elin while he recuperates from surgery. Stricker, Lefty, Sabbs and Cink were runners-up.

Here’s the field…

2008 Wachovia Championship Field

You must have your ISG Tipping entry in before the first tee time to be eligible for scores for this tournament. Cutoff time for new entries and changes to existing squads is Thu 10 PM (Australian Eastern Standard Time).

Please post your entries here: Entries

Full rules, comments and questions here: Main Competition Thread

New entrants are always welcome, weekly winners receive Vision prize packs thanks to the Boz. You must choose 4 players – with at least one Australian, one American and one from another country. The 4 players current World Golf Ranking points (see latest table here) must not total > 10.00… sadly this excludes Tiger.

The following players look like getting the weekend off.
+3: Howell
+4: Appleby, Micheel, Immelman, Quigley
+5: Weir, Luke Donald
+6: Hensby, Tim Clark

Welcome to newbie tipsters Lintz and everyone’s friend, the Bundy Bear. A solid start from both:

Lintz: Vijay Singh -2 Pat Perez Ev Bubba Watson Ev Hensby +6 = -2

Bundy_Bear: J.B. Holmes -1 O’Hern -1 Snedeker +1 Goosen DNP = -1

brentp is yet to collect any money on the ISG Tour, with a long row of DQs and missed cuts. He’s streeted the field in the Wachovia though, three shots clear of his nearest challenger:

brentp: Nick Flanagan -3 Zach Johnson -3 Camilo Villegas -3 Mike Weir +5 = -9

adlo’s best result is a 3rd at the FBR Open, hozel’s finsihed 4th at the Northern Trust Open. Both also share Vijay Singh at -2 and Jason Day as a DNP:

adlo1980: Villegas -3 Vijay Singh -2 D.J. Trahan -1 Jason Day DNP = -6
hozel: Allenby -2 Vijay Singh -2 Slocum -1 Jason Day DNP = -5

Good to see fresh blood on the tour, all the best Lintz and big Bundy Bear.

Also good to see a couple of old stagers firing well in BrentP and Adlo. Although Adlo has been sneeking up quietly over the last couple of tournaments.

The beauty of this ISG comp is that anybody at anytime has a chance to take out the money. Hardest part is, the better your players perform, the higher up the ranking you go. Therefore it becomes a real juggling act to make changes without depleting your player strength too much, or only having 3 starters and hoping for the best.

The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish.....

Wachovia Championship Second Round Update

The Yanks are dominating the Wachovia, with only Camilo Villegas cracking the top 7 at -5. Allenby, Ogilvy and Vijay Singh are at -4.

The following players missed the cut at +1:
+2: Bubba Watson, Matt Jones
+3: Appleby, Luke Donald
+5: Brett Quigley, Immelman, Paul Casey
+6: Mark Hensby, Woody Austin, Maruyama, Mike Weir
+8: Tim Clark

Charles Howell posted a 68 to make the cut by two strokes, Shaun Micheel shot 69 to only just make the weekend.

Wachovia Championship Second Round Leaders

brentp’s charge at a PGA win came unstuck today, with Flanagan posting a 75 and Zach Johnson shooting 76.

hozel took advantage despite only having 3 players in the field, shooting -8 to take a narrow lead. He’s missed the cut in the last three tournaments, but the extra practice on the weekends looks like it is starting to yield results.

hozel: Allenby -4 Slocum -5 Vijay Singh -4 Jason Day DNP = -13

chris81 shot -9 to move from T6 to 2nd. Freddy Couples is proving to be great value at only 0.75 World Ranking Points. He’s only made two cuts this year, so desperately needs a big cheque here to keep his card for 2009.

chris81: Slocum -5 Ogilvy -4 Couples -3 Chopra DNP = -12

Then we have pom and Topdog tied at -10, after both squads shot -7 for the second round. pom has made 4/4 cuts after joining the tour in mid February, but has yet to crack a top 10 for a tournament. Topdog’s best result so far is a 7th at the Arnold Palmer.

pom: Ogilvy -4 Slocum -5 Romero -1 Chopra DNP = -10
Topdog: O’Hern -3 Snedeker -2 Villegas -5 Appleby +3 = -10

Bunny shot a 66, one of the rounds of the day, to be T7 after starting the round just inside the cut line.

Rookie Bundy Bear has edged his way up to T10 after shooting 67, while Lintz went the other way, shooting 75.

Worst round of the day came from Dowls, who crashed from Ev to +13, thanks to Zach and Shigeki both shooting 76s.

Wachovia Championship Third Round Update

Anthony Kim is the runaway leader at the Wachovia at -13 after shooting 66 on Saturday. Ogilvy shot 69 to get to -7, but the best Aussie score was from Adam Scott – his 66 got him to -5 and T13.

Best rounds of the day were 65s from Pat Perez and Stewart Cink.

Other notable scores:
69: Slocum, JB Holmes
70: N Green, VJ Singh, Howell, Imada
76: Snedeker, Weekley
77: Sabbatini, Villegas

Wachovia Championship Third Round Leaders

chris81 shot 63 on Friday, but managed to go one better on Saturday, his 62 giving him a four stroke buffer on the rest of the field. His three players are all in the top 10 for the tournament, an impressive result so far.

chris81: Ogilvy -7 Slocum -9 Couples -6 Chopra DNP = -22

hozel shot a respectable 67 to stay in touch, but he needs Allenby to post a decent sub-par round to have any chance of overhauling chris.

hozel: Allenby -3 Slocum -9 Vijay Singh -6 Jason Day DNP = -18

pom has taken outright third place after shooting 65, and he’s now 6 strokes clear of the nearest challenger. Interesting that all three leaders haven’t got an alternate player in the field. pom needs Romero to overtake Couples to get ahead of Chris.

pom: Ogilvy -7 Slocum -9 Romero -1 Chopra DNP = -17

Wachovia Championship Third Round Leaderboard

Lintz has gone from -2 to +1 to -8 after 3 rounds, to be one stroke ahead of our other rookie Bundy Bear. Styles has moved into T4 after an impressive 65 (he has O’Hern and Cink).

Worst round of the day was AlexMc – Badds (74) Snedeker (76) and Vaughn Taylor (78) gave him a combined 86 to plunge out of the money. 1st round leader brentp is hanging on grimly to the last money spot after shooting 78.

Wachovia Championship Final Round Update

Anthony Kim coasted to a 5 shot win in the Wachovia (despite a handful of bogies on the back nine) – pity no-one actually had him in their squads. Robert Allenby shot 66 to finish outright 4th at -9. Other Aussies crashed on Sunday, unfortunately: Flanagan 78 (+8), N Green 77 (+4), O’Hern 76 (Ev), Ogilvy 76 (-3).

Best round of the day was a 65 from Ben Curtis to lift him to -11 and outright 2nd.

Notable scores:
67: Parnevik
69: Ames
70: Imada, Poulter, Z Johnson, Garcia, Baddeley
76: Ogilvy, O’Hern
77: N Green
78: Beem, Flanagan

Wachovia Championship Winners

As indicated, hozel needed Allenby to post a big round – and Rob delivered big time, shooting 66 to hand hozel his first PGA Tour title for 2008. Slocum and Singh slid back a few strokes, but that wasn’t enough to scupper the result. His previous best finish was a 4th at the Northern Trust.

hozel: Allenby -9 Slocum -8 Vijay Singh -4 Jason Day DNP = -21

chris81 was shooting monster scores on Friday and Saturday, but got the wobbles down the stretch, posting a 77 to slip back into second place. Ogilvy was the main culprit. Still, that’s a nice fat paycheck to lift him up from 36th on the money list (and a prize pack from Boz).

chris81: Ogilvy -3 Slocum -8 Couples -6 Chopra DNP = -17

pom shot a 78 (yep, thanks to Ogilvy) but still managed to hang on to 3rd place. He hasn’t missed a cut since joining the Tour, and now is in the top 20 on the money list.

pom: Ogilvy -3 Slocum -8 Romero Ev Chopra DNP = -11

Wachovia Championship Final Leaderboard

Sadly our first round leader brentp wasn’t able to hold on to a money position, after posting 77 78 79 for the last three rounds. But the worst round of the day was Sonab, with an 86 (ouch) thanks to Angel Cabrera (82) losing the plot.

Best final round came from sarg, his 65 getting him up from T20 to T6. Our two rookies Lintz and Bundy Bear also finished in the money. dougie1 picked up another big cheque, consolidating his 2nd place on the money list.

Next tournament is the Players Championship this coming weekend, the “5th major” – squad changes or new entries can be posted once the World Ranking Points are updated.

Thank you , Thank you, Thank you. ( victory speech)
was a close run thing at the end. Email sent. As for changes , the only player I can replace is Ogilvie. I think I,ll stay as I am & hope all 4 play the Players Championship.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

No one who ever had a lesson would have a swing like mine

Well done to Hozel, Chris and Pom. As for me.. well at least I didn’t come last :-) (Bad luck leighdog!)

Mr Consistency found his swing.

Well done Hozel – Chris & Pom. Welcome to the winners circle. Also good to see Lintz and Bundy get some dollars from their first outing. Milhouse makes a welcome return and ‘Styles’ heading for a ISGTC Mr Consistency monika. (No offence to The Real Mr C)

Well done to Hozel, Chris & Pom. Guess I’m not eating this week!

Tim Clark will definitely be disappearing from my squad, I don’t think he’s shot a round under par since I signed him!

Great work again Muntz.
